I think I might end up liking this Jonas Valanciunas guy quite well.

Finally got to see him play in person yesterday and he actually wasn’t that bad. Ran the floor extremely well, good on pick-and-roll offence, not so good on pick and roll or post defence but big and quick and he’s going to be a player. A pretty darn good player it looks like right now

OT, but this is a professional writer and NBA analyst? He writes like a guy having a conversation with his neighbor. "..actually wasn't that bad...pretty darn good player..." What a horrible wordsmith he is, a high school kid could write better prose.

Honestly! He writes like a kid!! I don't like his articles, and he's now jumping on the JV bandwagon.. I honestly wonder why people read his articles. It's all junk!

I think you need to consider the audience that the Doug caters to before you criticize the way he writes. Yes he's arrogant, but I think he can be when you consider his audience. This audience is not the 'real gm' hardcore fans who eat, sleep and can stretch a conversation about a scrub to 20+ pages. The reality is, most people just don't care enough to really look into or argue what he says.

There was an article yesterday in LietuvosRytas.lt about Jonas in that Rookie Transition Camp that was earlier. Some interesting quotes he made... Like "I learn good things about taxes system in USA" and he met with Donatas (Houston) and talked about "life in America"...
Unless Jonas BUSTS hard where do you think he will be heading after his rookie contract ends? I am sure he KNOWS how Raptors fans "welcome" him on his draft night  Even if he wasn't reading facebook or english press or forums all lithuanian press wrote about that...

Seems like he's finally coming over for good mid September from what the translation says.

Well he said early September in an interview in the middle of summer. Either way he's gona have a few weeks to get settled before training camp begins. To be honest, he is the main reason I'm excited and contemplating buying opening day tix for my brother father and I.

Edit: not that i think he's going to set the world on fire from day 1.He's just the first player in a long while that has appeals to me (as does Ross to a lesser degree)

I'm surprised he's getting that much love... He's currently 4th out of the lot, and it's generally a guards' award to win unless you're Griffin or Dwight. I'm not even certain Davis wins it this year - I'm thinking Lillard or MKG. With Ben Gordon (AND Jamario Moon - didn't know he was still in the league actually) on the Bobcats, I see Lillard probably having a bigger impact.

It's funny how quickly we could put JV into 1st place on that poll lol

My pick is Davis, though. He has enough hype around him that I think his teammates and coach will naturally work harder to help Davis get his. That's just an assumption, obviously, but I have a feeling the hype will translate to stats almost immediately.

A lot of people forget that Emeka Okafor beat out Dwight for ROY. That should put things into perspective.

If a rookie big outplays Val, it does not always mean that they will have a better career, it just means they're more polished at the moment.
