Fox 8: Cavs talking buyout with Casspi?

Post#1 » by Scoot McGroot » Sun Aug 19, 2012 8:45 pm

According to John Telich of Fox 8 on Twitter, the Cavaliers are in negotiations to buyout Omri Casspi's contract. Apparently, it's a mutual thing?

What's the SF rotation look like now? Gee just re-signed, so that helps, doesn't it?

He is horrible and my guess is that he wants to go play overseas.

Gee will and should start with Miles seeing heavy minutes at the backup 2/3 slot

Yeah, he definitely didn't show anything of value last year. However, I just assumed that the Cavs would have interest in his 4th year of the rookie deal (being so affordable), and giving him a full training camp/season under Byron to truly see what he could provide.

Who knows, maybe he would've been solid? Even if he would've been, I don't think it's a tremendously huge loss by any means. Gee and Miles is a solid yeoman-like duo to hold down the position. Nothing amazing, but it won't hurt the team tremendously, overall.

Well looking at the roster, at least a few players will need to be moved before the season starts.

According to Mary Schmitt Boyer via Twitter

Source tells The Plain Dealer there is no deal yet with Alonzo Gee and the team is not considering buying out Omri Casspi."

According to Sam Amico now, it looks to be too early to say. He's reporting the Cavs are not planning on buying out Casspi, but that that would mostly depend on if Casspi wants to return to Europe or not.

He's also reporting the Gee deal may not get done until training camp or, at least, until September.

Gee better not turn into Pavlovic 2.0 with this holdout.

Is it so much a holdout as just the way the NBA is going nowadays? Owners are still blowing too much money on the free agents up top, so to make it up, they are trying to really cut down the $2-5m a year backup and 3rd string guys to vet minimum deals or close. Remaining free agents like Gee, Barbosa, etc are paying for it.
