Local TV

Post#1 » by nghedman » Mon Aug 20, 2012 1:42 pm

Anyone know of a way to get the Jazz games this season over free local tv? I've moved from cable to Hulu plus/Roku and it appears Root sports is only on subscription tv. I'm looking for other alternatives.

I guess I might just have to buy NBA tv but I'm afraid the local games will get blacked out! :(

They will be blacked out on NBA TV as long as NBA TV thinks you're in Utah.

As for other means of watching, RealGM has a pretty strict policy against providing links to streaming services (such as first row sports) or I would direct you there.

NBA TV will work if you run through a proxy server outside of Utah. Takes a little technical know-how, but it isn't too complicated.

Could be hard but I'll have to trust my google search ;) Thanks

For those out there paying for TV, I definitely recommend Roku, Then find channels PlayOn, JustinTV, and Huluplus/Netflix and you got your monthly cable for the one time cost of purchasing the Roku box!! and the cost of Huluplus or Netflix. Awesome! If you want some extra channels, you can pay for them at a fraction of the cost per channel too. Like I purchased the MLS pass :) and contemplating Fox Soccer.

Down side:
If your college sports isn't on local; or their are a few colleges that don't find a roku channel you might be without some of that. And the NFL doesn't have a league pass yet. But you can get some games off fox channels and locals and some roku channels I'm finding.

Takes a bit to figure what channels you want and finding them because it is organized differently but it's like changing from cable to satellite and it's learned easily.....still well worth it. In some respects it's better; pre-organized, pre-recorded dvr. I own a tivo so I run it through that and thus pause all my local tv too when I want to.

MLB is on Roku if that is your thing.

I could purchase the NBA ticket too but I will see about that first. :D

Good luck, if you try it out I would be happy to help with direction but as mentioned above a google search seems to be the modern day "duct tape" solution to everything :). Lots of Roku boards out there too.
