The missing peace

Post#1 » by diplan » Wed Aug 22, 2012 4:57 am

Hey Lakers fans... you think we need another player for the bench? or we are just fine. I think we need one more peace.

What player do you think we need? ( free agents)

I think Barbosa is the right choice.

what player we need more?

I've been calling for Barbosa since Day1. I'm not really sold on Meeks. I want Barbosa AND Pietrus. But I don't think we can afford them. Doubt they'll take vet minimum.

Blake/Barbosa/Pietrus/Jamison/Hill :eyebrows:

Barbosa might sign for the min at this point but if i were his agent i would hold out as long as i could because true ..there is a reason he has not been signed yet but also in a pinch he could be useful to a team who has their starting and /or backup guard go down for whatever reason. At this point he cant command big dollars
(even with the nice Olympic performances) but i am surprised no other team has signed him for just over the min!
If we could have had him for the min i think he would already have a P&G Jersey.

peace
   [pees] noun
1.the normal, nonwarring condition of a nation, group of nations, or the world.
2.( often initial capital letter ) an agreement or treaty between warring or antagonistic nations, groups, etc., to end hostilities and abstain from further fighting or antagonism: the Peace of Ryswick.
3.a state of mutual harmony between people or groups, especially in personal relations: Try to live in peace with your neighbors.
4.the normal freedom from civil commotion and violence of a community; public order and security: He was arrested for being drunk and disturbing the peace.
5.cessation of or freedom from any strife or dissension.

piece
   [pees]noun
1.a separate or limited portion or quantity of something: a piece of land; a piece of chocolate.
2.a quantity of some substance or material forming a single mass or body: a nice piece of lumber.
3.a more or less definite portion or quantity of a whole: to cut a blueberry pie into six pieces.
4.a particular length, as of certain goods prepared for the market: cloth sold by the piece.
5.an amount of work forming a single job: to be paid by the piece and not by the hour.

Sorry just could not help myself. Cant wait til the season starts is all! :-)

If the Lakers can get Barbosa, then I think it would be the missing peace.

Nash can't play alot of minutes at his age, and to have Barbosa give good minutes off the bench to give Nash the extra rest, that would be huge. I think the Lakers have to be a little nervous when Nash goes to the bench and Blake gets abused on both ends of the court and rushing Nash back in the game to play extra minutes.

I think Jodie Meeks will help limit Kobe minutes on the court, better than last season.

Why has Barbosa not been signed already by the other 29 teams?

Maybe the Princeton offense will be a good match with Blake's game, but if Barbosa wants to play with Nash for cheap, hmm why not

If I were barbosa id go to the lakers for 1 year vet deal, improve my stock and I win championship with the lakers payday gets much bigger. Farmar got huge pay day after he won championship and he's worst than Barbosa! :)

We need another C/PF backup not more guards. We already got 6 guards. If Gasol/Howard goes down, its all over.

If we get anyone else I hope its a SF that can shoot because with Nash, Kobe, Pau and Dwight on the floor the 3 man is going to need to be able to hit open shots.

Barbosa looks to be a better 3 point shooter but Pietrus might be the better fit for our team if we're worried about SF depth.

If we really have our choice between the two, I don't expect us to get quite this lucky but who knows?, I think I'd go with Barbosa. He appears to score at a slightly better rate than Pietrus and if there's one thing our team is lacking it's perimeter speed. Jodie Meeks helps with this but having one more speedy guard never hurts. Also, he has played with Nash before in Phoenix and should be familiar with the way he runs an offense.
Sometimes being wrong is awesome!!! :D

Because he isnt very good anymore, especially for his asking price. He wants a multi year deal. Alot of people on this board seem to still think Barbosa is the same guy from 2006-2007. He isnt that good anymore and is too ball dominant. If you saw him play with Toronto and his run with the Pacers this past playoffs you would understand why Meeks is a better option going forward and why you wouldnt want Barbosa.

He actually isnt. Barbosa is a ball dominant undersized SG that shoots 40% from the field.

2011-12 Farmer per 36 min: 17.6 PPG, 5.6 APG, 1 SPG, 46.7 FG% and 44% 3P%

2011-12 Barbosa per 36 min: 16.2 PPG, 2.7 APG, 1.7 SPG, 40% FG%, 42% 3P%

Farmer is more productive than Barbosa when playing equal minutes. Once again, you guys need to understand that Barbosa is not the same player from 5-6 years ago.
