I hated the 80s Celtics.

Hated Bird. Hated McHale. Hated Ainge. Hated Jerry Sichting more than anyone. Hated dead spots in the parquet floors. Hated the Garden conveniently not having AC.

Today's Celtics are harder to hate for me because I actually like Garnett and Pierce and Allen and Rondo as players. I like their games and would welcome any of them on the Lakers, especially Pierce who we all know is an LA native.

In the midst of my hatred for the 80s Celtics, I NEVER wanted Ainge or Parish or DJ or McHale on the Lakers ... hated them too much for that.

... those Pistons teams weren't too far behind.

Alot of LA fans are hardcore Kobe fans. This generation is a players league dude.

Stebo I think you're going to have face the fact you're off base on this one. Most all here tell you we root for the name on the front of the jersey not the back.
It seems to me by your initial statement you're more of a Kobe fan than a Laker fan. So when Kobe leaves do you leave?

And Sedale the proper name for those guys are bandwagoners.

Not now, my initial attraction to the Lakers was Kobe. Im became a Laker fan over time. When Kobe retires Ill still be a Laker fan. Even still my statement holds true. This is a players fanbase driven league. There are serious hardcore LA fans and more than probably any other team but lets not ignore the fact that the fanbase gets bigger alot bigger when there is a star player there and winning going on. During the drought days in 04-08 in LA there was less Laker fans to be found. Ever since that Gasol trade things changed. Lets not forget about the post Magic Johnson days too, when everybody was a Bulls fan. All im saying dont let ur fandom take away the reality that most guys fell in love with teams due to certain players. Imagine the Laker fanbase change if Magic was traded or left in his prime or Kobe actually left post Shaq...look at the Bulls pre Rose/post MJ...LA just has had the ability to reup and keep the moral high in his fanbase. Thats the main difference.

Well, I was trying to be polite, which is rare for me. But yes, that's definitely another way to put it. It's all good; we all have our favorites and whatnot. But the way l look at it, I was a Lakers fan long before (insert player's name here) showed up, and I'm going to be a fan long after (insert player's name here) is gone.

2008. i was born in 93 so i wasnt around for the 80s or the 60s. i abhor them more than anything in sports (jints right behind them). it was paul pierces flop and theatrics in game 1 of 08, it was them throwing rocks at our bus while we left boston after game 6 of the series, its paul pierce that offseason saying hes one of the 5 best in the league, its paul pierce that next year saying he is the best shooter in the league after winning the 3 pt contest the next year, its paul pierce saying that they werent going back to la in 2010, its the overall gayness of boston fans. i can continue

i lived with my grandma until i was 5 and she has had season tickets since the 70s (i have gotten to attend a bunch of awesome games over the years) so ive grown up hating green. a pox on them and their fans. i dont like anything boston because of them and their fans who think all of their championships won in the 60s in a 10 team league (and the fact that they think they are sooo much better when they have 1 more championship whereas the lakers hold the advantage in every other stat that matters). i really hate how my friends hate lebron and miami more than the boston abomination. they have no understanding or appreciation of laker history

@ Stebo...hey man just to clarify I get your generations side of things, but in my opinion I feel you have a jaded view of the rivalry. When you said on page 4 that it's hard to have a rivalry when one team is winning all the titles.....is still a long ways off to what the rivalry is. You said to check the records, well I've done that since I was like 11-12 years old....I'm 43 and know the history too well. But I ask you this...do you know how many times the Lakers led 3-1 or 3-2 in those Finals ? If you really want to dig into the history look at the series in a much more in depth look behind what the final results say.


1969 was the absolute worst, having home court and going up 3-2 only to see the series come back to LA tied 3-3. Then lose it all on a fluky ass Don Nelson bounce on the rim. 2010 was retribution, the Celtics deserved to lose a Game 7 on our floor.
