Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - JDW's Pick
AK47 was one of the guys I was mulling over for my next pick. He's one of those guys you don't really see very often, which is what I've been going for. One of the very few 5x5 threats in recent memory.
Really hard to fault that pick

Especially in these star studded teams, a do it all glue man who doesn't need the ball is priceless.

I have always had great respect for his game. Whatever his role on the court he tried to be the best at it. I was a Jazz fan during his prime and he was impossible to miss on he court

those two were such sleeper picks. You could have legitimate reasons to pick them a round or two ago. I actually couldn't decide between Parish, Daugherty and this third great center who hasn't been picked yet, but I decided that Parish wouldn't be around as long as Daugherty, so I might as well try and pick both of them.

For the next pick A Different World selects 2010-11 Kevin Love for the "All-Star" category. That season he averaged 20.2 PPG, 15.2 RPG, 2.5 APG. For a big man he shot an incredible 41.7% from downtown.
Plus if I'm down 2 with less than 2 seconds left to any of your teams I immediately insert him in the game for this.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - Fat's Pick
today in practice chris mullin missed two shots in a row. that has never happened before. magic was a little concerned that mullin may get cold and miss two shots during a game. i know that seems unthinkable, but magic likes to prepare for the worst. so magic suggested we get another shooter, perhaps the best pure shooter in the past 30 years.
team fatlever selects drazen petrovic for the RIP category. we will be using the 1992-93 version of petrovic. in 92-93 he averaged 22.3ppg on 52% and a scorching 45% from the 3-pt line.
he once scored 112 points in a game in europe
what a tragedy.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - Fat's Pick
I've almost selected him the last 2 picks, I literally had it all written out last time before changing my mind last minute.
Bugger.
Anyhow, I'm stoked that I can select this player so late in the draft, he really seems to have drifted under the radar. For double digits I'm taking Kevin Johnson 1989-90.
22.5pts, 11.4 assists, 1.3 stls.
Copying Swedd, this is what Simmons had to say about KJ.

He also has one of the funniest injuries I've ever read.

No point guard brazenly attacked the basket, dunked on bigger guys and destroyed guys off the dribble quite like KJ in his prime; it wasn’t that opponents couldn’t stay in front of him as much as how they instinctively backed up before he made a move. Had KJ peaked post-2004—when they started whistling hand check fouls, stopped whistling moving screens and made it so much easier for guards to get into the paint—he
would have averaged a 30–15 and beaten out Steve Nash for consecutive MVPs.

He also has one of the funniest injuries I've ever read.
But even before Johnson played his first regular season game with Charles Barkley, he suffered an undiagnosed hernia in October 1992 when he attempted to lift obese rookie teammate Oliver Miller off the ground during a preseason game.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - K2H's Pick
are you guys taking the time to type out quotes from the book or is there a place you can copy and paste from? i wanted to quote the part in the tom chambers section where he talks about how magic and chambers ran the pick and roll in the 87 all star game and could not be stopped. but i am too lazy to type it all out.
kevin johnson awesome pick. he would have been picked several rounds ago if he was eligible for harder cats.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - K2H's Pick
I prefer this Simmons quote about Chambers.
"Even though his eighties hairdo (blondish brown hair parted in the middle with some girth in the back) made him look like a cross between Paul “Mr. Wonderful” Orndorff and every women’s softball player from 1985 to 1989."

Don't you just love getting excited because your pick is coming up and you are planning to take a player (Petrovic) in this round about 5 rounds ago and he gets picked?
