Laker Depth

Post#1 » by LewisnotMiller » Thu Aug 23, 2012 12:03 am

So...on the Celts board, we've been convincing ourselves we hang 3 deep at each position (kinda a stretch when you look at Centre, but...)
The reasoning there is that the depth will help us challenge for a championship, and help us survive some of the injuries an older team generally has to work through.

Course, they only let one guy at each position on court at any one time, so I still have the Lakers in the West, and the Heat in the East, as the teams to go through, with OKC and hopefully Celts the legit challengers.

Anyways, I am wondering what you guys see your depth looking like? I know there are always limited minutes behind guys like Howard (once healthy) and Kobe, but i'd assume there will be times when that depth is called on fairly heavily.

Something like;

Steve Nash/Steve Blake/Chris Duhon (where does Goudelock fit in?)
Kobe/Jodie Meeks/Darius JO
World Peace/Antawn Jamison/Devin Ebanks
Pau Gasol/Earl Clark/Art Moss
Dwight Howard/Jordan Hill/Robert Sacre

Don't like the PF depth there much, especially early in the year, assuming Howard is a slow/non-starter. Course, Jamison can play there too. Still...looks thin.

Was wondering what everyone here (who obviously see a lot more of the Lakers than me) thinks about depth?

Steve Nash/small amount of throwup in mouth
Kobe/Jodie Meeks/Darius JO
World Peace/Devin Ebanks/Antawn Jamison
Pau Gasol/Antawn Jamison/Hill/ Clark
Dwight Howard/Pau/Jordan Hill/Robert Sacre

Actually we are probably deepest at PF. it's going to be pg where we get next to nothing and SG (if any injuries happen).

Pg:Nash 8-) , Barbosa  , Blake :nonono: Morris :banghead: , something-odom :dontknow:
Sg:Bryant :onfire: , Meeks :basketball: , Goudelock :uhoh:
Sf-Peace  , Ebanks :pityfool:
Pf-Gasol :box: , Jamison :peace:
C- D-Ho :guitar: , Hill

Realistically
Nash and Blake
Bryant and Meeks
Peace and Ebanks
Gasol and Jamison
D-Ho and Hill

Our weak back ups are PG, SF and Sg, but I have faith in meeks. I am also giving Ebanks the BOD. Blake on the other hand.....

Who is Art Moss? Also think only 2 of the 3 make it out of Odom, glock, sacre if they are lucky. Think we will add one more vet at sf or pf

Oh...well...you can kinda think of him as <insert placeholder>. He's an American who's been playing in Oz, not particularly good to be honest, just kinda amused me to put that there instead of a blank-space. He might be a Mormon? On mission? Not sure...we have had them come over from time to time. Shawn Bradley even, I think.

Severely undersized, good looking jumper, but rarely seems to hit it, and rocks a Kevin Love style beard. I think he has had some troubles over here with teammates, so he's heading back to the States. Bit of a hothead.

So you guys all see Jamison as playing almost exclusively PF? Hmm...I was thinking he might play some SF, since I don't particularly rate Ebanks, and figure there is at least some chance MWP's game continues shrinking. But assuming MWP can hold the starting spot, and Ebanks is better than the version I have floating around in my head...

Jamison would be most effective on the floor with either Gasol or Howard; not both.

Ther is never enough depth on any team. We always want one more here and one more there. But due to the amount of money the Lakers are paying Kobe and Pau, it is going to be hard to find any player that is better than what we have. AJ was a steal at PF, we need to find others who would want to go that way. Maybe during training camp, someone will beg and pleade and get an invite. Not sure all the young players will make it. Can not win a ring with them. But good to have some youth hanging around.

This is the line up that I have been screaming. Jamison may be the back up SF and PF.
