Dionte Christmas

http://wagesofwins.com/2012/08/03/the-euro-rankings/

Found this interesting tidbit about Dionte Christmas on the above link:

"â– The signing with the most potential for impact next year other than AK47 is Dionte Christmas for the Celtics. He was fabulous in Europe last year and has a chance to be a legit replacement for Ray Allen for the Celtics. I am very happy about this."

With the increase tendencies for Free Agents to gravitate to the warmer climate NBA Cities ( Miami, Phoenix, Texas locations ) I feel its becoming more important for the Celtics to mine (and get ahead of the 30 other teams) the other leagues, NBDL and Europe to help fill their rosters in the coming years.

I feel the C's may need to overpay in some cases for top free agents, so creating a solid bench on Euro players and NBDL will become crucial because we may get a bargian contract from these type of players.

I know Europe players have a rap of not playing good defense, so I feel its even more important to intergrate them in the Celtics culture while Doc and KG are still here.

I dont feel that Europe players can play defense, its more that they have never been asked to at such a high level.

I'd be interested in hearing others thoughts on this article and whether you think Dionte Christmas signing is a first of a trend for the Celtics.

I'm really high on Dionte as well and I hope he makes the final roster over Jamar Smith.

While I don't think he'll be a legit replacement for Ray this early, may be in a couple years if we can keep him but as far as this year goes, I think he'll give us a lot of depth at the guard positions and when his number is called, I think he'll be able to produce. I loved this signing.

This may have been a better signing last year for Christmas to have such an impact. He really has to make every minute count in the time before Avery Bradley gets back or he may not even be a factor at all. In Summer League he seemed to have the confidence to be an aggressive scorer off of the bench - let's hope he shows something.

Yeah, I hope we keep him for the season. He would be AWESOME as the third-string shooting guard. He can shoot and score, you can always use that on such an inconsistent offensive team like ours, but that'll change probably as we now have Terry, Lee, and Green. Still, I hope Xmas makes the final roster. I really like the guy.

I think that a lot of things will depend on how Christmas plays.

Danny hasn't stocked this team this way fro nothing. H e is going to be making a play for someone like Josh Smith, or someone like him, during the season, and if Dionte shows that he can handle a backup role and suck up the minutes that enables other guys to be turned into trade chips.

I'm excited to see what he can do but unfortunately, you know Doc. He's not gonna be playing until someone either goes down, or at the end of blowout games.

Christmas is a pretty versatile heady tough player. Can he play a pure PG role? No, he can't. But he can play as a duo with another combo guard in the backcourt and bring it over the halfcourt line and get the team into something. He's really embraced a Euro style and I think he has a legit chance to steal minutes somewhere. He's really tough savvy and he knows how to score the rock. If he doesn't earn a role this season I could see him being groomed to replace some of the skills Pierce brings to the game. In other words he is a keeper.
