Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - RIP Essendon's Pick
It was between Peja and Dan, and while Dan's defense is better, Peja's size is just so important, especially for an elite shooter and with undersized Charles and LJ.

I love some Dan Majerle though. Very underrated.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - RIP Essendon's Pick
LOL at sachmo trolling slam.
dan majerlie is one of my all-time most hated players. i couldnt stand that guy, especially at the tail end of his career when he would just grab and hang on the jerseys of the players he was guarding. he was one of the players who benefited the most from that rugged style of ball in the late 90s/early 00s, when the refs let defenders get away with murder.
i have a funny and completely inappropriate story about dan majerlie i will share. when i was in college the 2nd dream team played an exhibition game in charlotte in 1994 (prior to the world championships).
http://www.usabasketball.com/mens/natio ... _1994.html
so me and about 5 of my friends bought tickets to this game. all of my friends hated dan majerlie as much as i did, perhaps even more. we proceeding to boo and heckle majerlie every time he touched the ball. well, one of my friends crushed about 8 beers before the game, in the car, in the parking lot etc... and bought a few more at the game. he was trashed. he was going after majerlie big time and it was starting to get very embarrassing. he was dropping f-bombs left and right, screaming at majerlie. right in front of our seats was this soccer mom and her little boy who must have been about 7. that poor boy and soccer mom were getting an earful listening to my buddy. he was completely oblivious. and the mom looked so uncomfortable. it was truly an awkward moment. and then when the arena was quiet my buddy screamed "hey dan majerlie, why dont you go to Haiti and catch AIDS!!!" yes, he went there. this was in 94, just after the whole magic thing and when the country was freaking out about AIDS. i think everyone in our section turned around to stare at who would say such a thing. i seriously wanted to crawl under my chair at this point. this was the last straw from the soccer mom who turned around and just blasted my friend. i don't think he said another word for the rest of the game. perhaps he passed out.
so there is my random dan majerlie story.

I don't remember too much about Majerle, but I can't say I was much of a fan. He was a pretty good player, no doubt, but he doesn't seem like the type of guy I would like

i cant believe slam picked kiki. he is basically ammo back when guys like ammo could make it in the league, slow, white, refuses to play defense, but can stick mid ranges jumpers all day long.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - swedd's Pick
My second unit already has one of the toughest bulldog defenders ever in DJ, a rim protector in Nance, and a all around big in Bosh. So I think I'll add in some scoring punch to balance that backcourt out. Luckily, this guy could pour it in from just about anywhere on the floor and possessed one of the sweetest jumpers the game has ever seen. Nicknamed "The Greyhound" for his speedy style and "Sweet D" for his ability to make it look so MFN easy.
But don't take my word for it, let's ask the GOAT what he thinks about this guy:
That's some pretty good company!
His best season was probably his first (77-78, 6th man), in which he averaged a cool 24/6/3 on 52.6 from the field and racked up some impressive accolades:
Rookie of the Year
First Team All-Rookie
All-Star
Second Team All-NBA
5th in MVP voting

But don't take my word for it, let's ask the GOAT what he thinks about this guy:
I built my talents on the shoulders of someone else’s talent. For the Love of the Game. I believe greatness is an evolutionary process that changes and evolves era to era. Without Julius Erving, David Thompson, Walter Davis, and Elgin Baylor, there would never have been a Michael Jordan. I evolved from them.
That's some pretty good company!

Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - K2H's Pick
god dammit, got all cocky that I was going to steal Ginobli with the 6th man pick, wondered why no one else had taken him and I only just realised that he doesn't qualify. Didn't see that last bit that said they had to average at least 10 pts a game.
Well played Fats.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - Fat's Pick
From one great 6th man to the next.
I will be taking the sweet shooting Ricky Pierce 1989-90 for 6th man, which was the 2nd time he had won 6th man of the year averaging a team leading 23.0 points without starting a single game (an NBA record).

Current lineup.
pg. Rondo, KJ
sg. Carter, Ricky Pierce
sf. Bird
pf. Nowitzki, Amare
c. Howard, Eaton

I love how we really have picked up the tempo, it's almost hard deciding which pick I want to comment. Seems like everyone gets a steal now and then. I love the Ricky Pierce pick.
well, at least you have Alonzo cleaning up after Kiki lets every athletic small forward past.

I wanted a SF type who could create his own shot coming off the bench to play in spurts. My team is loaded with D and the offense that Kiki brings is a nice blend (to accompany the Microwave).

Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - Fat's Pick
patrick ewing came to my office today after practice and told me that he really thought it would be a good idea to draft a real bad ass motha big man to help if a big fight broke out in the playoffs. i love a good playoff fight.
team fatlever selects anthony mason using the deep sleeper category (3rd round). we will be using the 1996-97 version of mason, the year he carried the charlotte hornets on his back basically playing point, power forward. in 1996-97 he averaged 16.2ppg, 11.4rpg, 5.7apg and shot 52%. he was named 2nd team all defense and 3rd team all NBA.
thanks lamar

PG: Magic Johnson 1986-87: 23.9ppg, 6.3rpg, 12.2apg, 52% - NBA MVP, Finals MVP, 1st Team NBA
SG: Allen Iverson 2000-01: 31.1ppg, 3.8rpg, 4.6apg, 2.5spg, 42% - NBA MVP, 1st Team NBA
SF: Chris Mullin 1991-92: 25.5ppg, 5.6rpg, 3.5apg, 2.1spg, 52% - 1st Team NBA
PF: Tom Chambers 1989-90: 27.2rpg, 7.0rpg, 2.3apg, 50% - 2nd Team NBA
C: Patrick Ewing 1989-90: 28.6ppg, 10.9rpg, 4.0bpg, 55% - 1st Team NBA
Bench
Antonio McDyess 2000-01: 20.8ppg, 12.1rpg 1.5bpg, 49.5% - 3rd Team NBA
Penny Hardaway 1995-96: 21.7ppg, 4.3rpg, 7.1apg, 2.0spg, 51% - 1st Team NBA
Drazen Petrovic 1992-93: 22.3ppg, 3.5apg, 52%, 45% on 3s - 3rd Team NBA
Anthony Mason 1996-97: 16.2ppg, 11.4rpg, 5.7apg, 52% - 3rd Team NBA, 2nd Team Defense
i would like to take this time to point out that 8 of my 9 players have a fg% of 49.5 or higher. the efficiency of my offense will be staggering (even with AI)

In an effort to be able to throw too completely different starting lineups on the floor to exploit every other team. A Different World selects 1994-95 Cedric Ceballos for "Black Hole"
Ced entertained his audiences to the tune of 21.7 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 50.9% FG, 39.7% 3FG
