Re: Nets sign Donte Greene
Let's be real here for a sec. We don't have a proven backup SF so I expect to see JJ there quite a bit when Wallace is out. Greene has a chance to play if he puts the effort in. I think either him or Toko will get spot minutes (maybe around 10 per game) to keep guys fresh during the year.
Camp battle is brewing between Toko and Greene to get some minutes at the 3.
I think we need to go for K-Mart as a backup C. If we land him I'm content going into next year with our starters and bench with Greene/Toko and K-Mart/Evans battling for backup minutes at the 3 and 5, respectively. That will give us good depth since we have very good backups already at the 1, 2, and 4.

Turiaf is 6'10 - 250...Averaged 10 minutes in the playoffs when Bosh went down. Pittman is 6'11 - 285 pounds...averaged 2.5 minutes after Bosh went down.
So, as it is. If Lopez goes down in a scenario we play Indiana much like Miami instead of having extra height and weight to throw in the C position to stop gap, we would have a 6'8 Reggie Evans guarding a 7'2 Hibbert. That is not okay.
We don't need anyone talented, size and fouls is all you need. That's why Boston signed Ryan Hollins, Sean Williams for the playoffs.

hibbert is trash an offense and uber-soft. you can certainly get away with evans on him. there are few bigs in the league, especially the east, that are going to make you pay for going small at center. hell didnt the rockets start a 6'6" chuck hayes at center not to long ago?
we might even have a size advantage at times with one of our bigs at center with how often teams go small now.
brining in 7 foot stiffs wont help us. especially since they woudlnt play and avery would still go with evans...because he is the clear better option

Chuck Hayes is built differently than Evans. I agree there isn't alot of offensive centers in the East but that doesn't mean anything. You still have quality rebounding and offense finishing bigs. We will have a size advantage at times but will we against the Grizzlies, LA Lakers and other teams.
The only way to maximize size with this current roster is by starting Tele for spacing with Lopez and bringing Kris/Reggie off the bench to crash the boards.
The key to making this team 4th or 3rd in the East is defense and rebounding. You won't get alot of it with Tele/Evans off the bench as a tandem.

we wont be outworked on the boards too often with evans in the lineup. even next to mirza. its about ability, not just size. our defense will be good enough. especially with how much we will score. the spurs and thunder werent good defensive teams last year, but they could score.
like VC said, we'll win plenty of regular season games. it will hurt us late in the playoffs. and no one available to be signed will change that.
but to think we wont be a top 4 seed, if healthy, is just comical.

^The Spurs and Thunder both ranked 10th and 11th, respectively, last year on defense.

I'm hoping that the defensive capabilities of JJ and Wallace end up leading the charge for our team defense, so that if Lopez reacts late or is just too slow, it doesn't hurt us all that much.
Gotta admit though, our team defense would be tremendous if we had JJ, Wallace, and Dwight. And then our offense would be killer with D-Will, JJ, Tele, and D12.
Oh, what could've been....

DRating is much more accurate, because a team that plays more possessions will obviously give up more points, but isn't necessarily a worse defensive team.
Spurs and Thunder were tied for 10th last year.

The Spurs and Thunder were the best offense efficient teams so they don't need to be Top 10 defensively to be a force.

Re: Nets sign Donte Greene
Donte Greene suffered a broken ankle Saturday while working out in Charlotte. The 24-year-old will require surgery and his training camp invitation is now on hold, his agent tells Marc J. Spears.
Spears tweets, "Greeneās expected signing with Nets this week now on hold due to pending surgery on ankle 'with some type of fracture,' Chris Luchey tells Y!" NBA training camps open a month from Saturday.
Luchey tells Sports that a pending MRI results will determine how long Greene will be out after ankle surgery but Greene is hopeful he'll sign with Nets.
Personally, I'd rather not sign him now. Open up 3 more spots and see what's available on the market in the next 3 weeks while he gets the surgery and rehabs.

I'm sorry but summer league highlights aren't a good way to measure a player's success in the NBA.
They play no defense in the summer league and the competition is much weaker.
