Rondo is still the 7th best PG in the league IMO. Deron is 6 or 5.

I think laimbeer needs to add rondo to his sig

We're using playoff success to put rondo above deron williams? That's beyond stupid. Especially since rondo never led his team to the playoffs and his inability to hit anything outside of 10 feet cost them the title in 2010. I'd love to see what Deron could do when you replace boozer with garnett or okur with duncan.

The only point I'm taking over Deron is Chris Paul. Those two have the best balance of scoring +20 points and getting +10 assists than any other player in the league.

Also, I don't know what the appropriate stat is, but haven't the celtics had a mediocre offense since rondo has taken over?

Yea the PG that leads the league in assist, top 5 in steals annually, top PG on on-ball defense is the 7th best PG in the league...yea that guy.

I can see Rondo not being the best PG in the league but to say he is 7th, can you seriously name 6 guys clear cut better than Rondo in the league at this point? With the way he has balled for his team the last 2 seasons?

Chuck, I don't think you can really call Rondo, Westbrook or Parker "no brainers" as being better than Deron. He had a down year this past season during the compressed year, it's true, but so did a lot of people and the Nets weren't exactly littered with healthy talent or bright coaching, which is highly important. He's performed, and well, all throughout the season and PS but his teams have butted up and lost to the eventual WC champion (and thrice the NBA champion) in the playoffs, so there's only so much he can do with Boozer as his second-best player, right? Or even with the Booze and AK. Certainly with the mess they had in New Jersey the last year and a bit.

Comparing him to guys playing on teams with a lot more talent, especially guys with lesser overall impacts and weaker games, etc, meh.

Not the past year, the past two years. He hasn't been the same since he left Utah.

 exactly some people go too far. while I don't have Deron as my 1a or 1b anymore I still think he's top 4 at least. lol@ 7th best for rondo as well. the fact that he can avg 11apg without being an offensive threat says a lot. Deron, Chris, Nash are all capable of getting baskets which causes the defender to over play them and leading to an assist.

He played 12 games for the Nets after the trade and averaged 12.8 apg. The team was thin on talent to begin with, then dealt with no BroPez and a lockout/compressed season.

What were you expecting? He was also played a lot at the 2 instead of the 1. He had a decent season and was still considerably more valuable than Rondo offensively.

To me Williams is clearly the better player, you can argue Cp3/Rose/Westbrook being better but that's it.

Success must dilute some people's ability to see obvious talent disparities. Rondo MIGHT be a better passer than D-Will, but it is incredibly marginal -- especially compared to the sizable gap between them on offense. Williams is a far superior scoring threat and shooter, and off the ball player. Rondo is clearly the better defender, but it doesn't offset what advantages Deron has over him on offense.

Deron is also one of the best playoff PG's ever. Look at what he did with Jazz

People tend to overrate Rondo`s playoffs.

He definitely steps up his game but it is relative to his subpar regular season play and not relative to other elite point guards.

For example people obsess over Rondo's playoffs this year even though he dropped 17 points on 50 percent true shooting without seeing many (or really any) double teams. If Paul/Deron/Rose did that they would get killed by the media because there is a far greater standard.

Anyways I think Deron this year wasn't anything special in the slightest but if motivated he is on a completely different level to Rondo.

D-Will was probably the best PG in the NBA until he left Utah. He's had injuries in NJ, and over the last year and a half, Paul, Rondo, Westbrook, and healthy Rose have overtaken him.

Those 4 TOs per game he had last season bother me a bit and he only shot 40% from the field last season as well.

you realize how damning ur last statement is, right? You never have to worry about motivation with Rondo.

^^I wouldn't be so sure about that. We don't know how rondo would act if he was in deron's position. He's always been on a contender and never on a team headed out of the playoffs because of injuries

Deron is not the same PG he was in Utah. Sloan played a huge part in his numbers and success there.

This isn't 2009 anymore. Get this through your head people. Most overrated PG in the game.

Shooting 40% and 4 TOs a game with atrocious defense is not top 5 PG material. I don't give a **** about him in Utah. He's fatter and slower now.

This is 2012.

Deron is better than Rondo. I think both are overrated though but Rondo more so.

My issue with Deron is his weak D and rebounding and my issue with Rondo is his inconsistent shooting and his inconsistent overall play. Rondo coasts way too much during the regular season to conserve energy for the post-season and I cannot stand players that do that.

I'll go with Deron, just because his qualities are better for the PG position and his weaknesses aren't as big of a deal as Rondo's .

If this isn't ignorant than I don't know what is.

First off, he's 27, not 33, 1 off season is fine, and I doubt he's even entered his prime yet. Secondly, you seem misinformed -- Deron made it known that he did not want to play in NJ at all. So his level of play was skewed, because 1. The talent around him was far below average, and 2. Again, he didn't want to play there.

Also, Rondo averaged 4 turnovers per game as well, and was much, much worse on offense than D-Will was. Aside from not having a reliable jump-shot, he shot 44% from the field/48%TS, 24% from 3, and 59% from the free throw line. But his defense, which can be attributed in large part to the system he's playing in, some how offsets that right? Give me a break.

PLEASE STOP!!!!! westbrook aint better than Deron and I'm not to sure Rose deserves to be mentioned on the same level. Westbrook scores a lot of points but he makes no one better. Deron Paul & Rondo Makes players better.
