Bingo. A free shot at an athletic, Nene-type bruiser and people are complaining about Grunfeld.
JonathanJoseph was prescient back in June, 2010, (page 2 of this thread), when Kevin was drafted.

I always enjoyed reading JJ's posts. His never say die attitude towards gil was always amusing even if he was reaching half the time.

Re: Kevin Seraphin
with Philly getting Bynum, I think the Wizards are well positioned to compete
with them much moreso than if we had retained McGee. Bynum succeeds by
bullying his way to the basket which he was easily able to do against McGee.
Kevin had one of his better games, while McGee was still here, in the Laker
game last year. He prevented Bynum from doing what he wants to do. Nene
and Oke should be similar in this regard.

Veremeenko, PJR, Pecherov, Vesely, Tomas...one of Ernie's foreign picks was bound to work-out. Glad we have Kevin.

Ves is working out fine so far.
Tomas hasn't even played yet so you can't call that one yet.
That leaves Party John and OP
PJ was a second round 7-3 athletic kid that was worth a shot for a team that desperately needed a big.
He was a member of the 2004 Puerto Rican National Team that defeated the United States in the 2004 Olympic Games. Ramos was selected as a NBDL All Star and earned All-NBA Development League Honorable Mention during the 2006-2007 season. He was worth taking a chance with.
In 2007 Ramos returned to the Caguas Creoles of the National Superior Basketball after a two-year absence. He finished with an average of 17.5 points per game.[1]
In 2007, Ramos represented Puerto Rico as a member of the Puerto Rican National Basketball Team during the 2007 Pan-American Games winning the Silver Medal.
Ramos signed with Alta Gestión Fuenlabrada to play in the 2007-08 season of the Spanish Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto league,[2] Ramos played the 2008 BSN season with averages of 17.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. He was selected as a starter in the 2008 BSN All-Star Game, where he was selected the game'smost valuable player and scored twenty-two points and nine rebounds.[3] While Caguas participated in the BSN "Super-6" round, Ramos claimed that he had matured since traveling to Spain, which helped him in his game.[1] Ramos later played for Piratas de Quebradillas in the Puerto Rico Professional League (BSN).
In 2011, Ramos signed with the Seoul Samsung Thunders in South Korea. On November 7, 2011 he was released from Seoul Samsung Thunders after averaging 18.1 pts. and 9.9 reb.
According to the Today Morning Post in Hangzhou, the Zhejiang Guangsha Lions have chosen to replace Dwyane Jones with Peter John Ramos. Ramos is a familiar face in Hangzhou as he spent the last two seasons playing for the Lions. Last year, the 7’3 Puerto Rican averaged 24.8 points, 13.9 rebounds and 1.2 blocks on 64% shooting. November 30, 2011
He is still only 27
The kid had some talent and he was 7-3 and athletic. But pre Ted, EG would take to many flyers on kids with talent, but who had mental issues. OP, PJ, Dray, Nick, McGee, Gil .. See the pattern.
Post Ted, I don't see this.

Yeep. I think it will be a good match up between those two teams. Should be competitive.
Can't wait to see our bigs against Bynum.
Also consider this. Bynum is not exactly fast up and down the floor so you can neutralize him by just out running him.

Hope so. JJ and payitforward ably serve as a cranky Greek chorus. Ace Degenerate could have been that had he stuck to facts a little more.

Re: Kevin Seraphin
Hollinger's updated scouting report on KS. Pretty accurate i think.
Scouting report
+ Solidly built, long-armed, raw big man with greatly improved midrange jumper.
+ Can post up for short-range jump hook. Doesn't draw fouls. Weak ball skills.
+ Tough, aggressive defender who blocks shots. Not a great rebounder.
Analysis
The most encouraging thing about Washington's largely forgettable season was the development shown by Seraphin. After a miserable rookie season, he showcased a much-improved midrange game to go with an effective jump hook in the post and, as a result, dramatically improved both his scoring and shooting percentages.
Seraphin shot 42.7 percent on jumpers from outside 10 feet, a completely unexpected outcome that made him a viable offensive player. While this is likely an outlier -- he's still not much of a foul shooter, for instance -- he just needs to be adequate from outside because he also scores in the paint. Seraphin's mastery of the jump hook helped him shoot 46.3 percent from 3-9 feet, an area where most players struggle. The next stop is to add some shot fakes to improve his low free throw rate.
Seraphin also cut his turnovers substantially from his rookie season, although he still gets busted for illegal screens quite a bit. This isn't all bad: He sets crunching screens, some of the hardest in the league, and Bradley Beal is likely to become a major beneficiary of this.
Defensively, he's a beast in the making. Seraphin ranked as Washington's top defender according to Synergy, as the Wizards gave up 6.3 fewer points per 100 possessions with him on the court. While his opponent data wasn't very impressive, Seraphin is a solid team defender who can move his feet against the pick-and-roll and ranked in the top quarter of centers in blocks per minute. Additionally, he cut his foul rate dramatically after the full-scale assault known as his rookie season.

Re: Kevin Seraphin
I'm not sure the Olympics were good for Veen. Perhaps just working on his body, skills, trying to find ways to improve defensive rebounding, and offensive moves that could be used to draw contact would have been better. But if he shows anywhere near the type of improvement he showed last season, we got a helluva player.

Re: Kevin Seraphin
He has two major holes in his game, rebounding and attacking the basket/drawing fouls. Those are the two areas i will be watching most. I am fairly confident about his game in other areas.
