Steve Nash in 2012

Hey guys, just inquiring a little bit about Nash and his performance level last year. I'm really excited about having him but aren't sure if i'm expecting too much or too little right now.

Didnt see the Suns play much last year and I've been watching all the youtube clips from 2012 I could but the highlights are pretty sparse. Wondering if you guys could give me some insight on how he played last year, if you think he showed signs of slowing down due to decline, if you think his capability as a player has gone down and to what degree, etc.

Thanks for any help.

He doesn't have the energy to create his own offense anymore. Last year his FGA, 3PA & FTA's were the lowest since his Dallas days. It doesn't matter because he won't really have to for the Lakers. Anyway, still super smart & efficient. I actually think he could have career highs in 3PA's next year. Despite it being for LA it should be very exciting to watch that offense.

Steve Nash is still the best PG in the league. Nobody, even Suns fans don't give him enough credit. No other point guard in the league, last year, could have made the Suns a potential playoff team. We had/have no talent. Absolutely no talent, and I don't think we've EVER had good enough talent. Steve Nash made EVERYONE look like they can play basketball. The Lakers, on the other hand, have talent. When I pair Nash next to them, I can't even think how GREAT they're gonna be as a team. Call me stupid, but if Dwight was healthy from the start, they will beat the Bulls record.

People say I'm dumb, but I believe Nash can average 13 asts next year. The game is going to be so easy for him having Kobe, Gasol, and Dwight getting spoon fed every possession. Nash has NEVER had good enough talent like that. Amare was good, but Gasol is fundamentally good. Dwight is just a monster.

Sorry to say this, but the only player Nash has ever had that was talented was JRich, and Joe Johnson. We've never had a player that can score on their own. And this is coming from a Suns fan. Sad to see Nash win a title with our rivalry.

In my mind, I believe Nash is a top 5 pg in the NBA. Yeah, he doesn't shoot like he did past years but still shoots high percentage. Wherever Nash goes he makes his teammates so much better its not even funny. Even makes scrubs play around him better. Not many despise him and players enjoy playing alongside with him because of his court vision. Next season I'm predicting Nash to average 16/11/3 and still be around 50/40/90 on the season.

The guy who the Suns drafted and then became one of the greatest PGs of all time and will retire in the Suns ring of honor...

Could anyone elaborate on this a little bit? Did you get the impression he couldn't, or just didn't?

I think Nash will get a lot more spot-up opportunities this year playing with guys who demand consistent doubles, how was Nash shooting spotting up last year? I know some guys are better shooting off the dribble than off a pass.

Nash lost a step and couldn't create his own offense on his own. He only took shots when a big man (mainly Gortat) freed him up with a pick. Nash only took shots where he was left completely open by his defender. He couldn't do it anymore, just look at our crunch times where the ball often went to Frye because Nash coldn't get it done. It was annoying sometimes.

Another point: If his back doesn't feel healthy he won't take those shots and if he does, he'll miss. Will be interesting to see how he will do without ur medical staff.

Nash almost never spotted up unless we ran a specific play for him where he was completely open in the corner. he often made those shots. Looking back at the Shaq days, he didn't do well as a spot-up shooter-only and he's much better creating off the dribble.

I would say while most people know he can pass like a magician and run the pick and roll like a master, his career shooting numbers are often overlooked. This is probably due to the fact that he is almost unselfish to a fault but the guy is still one of the best scoring guards to ever touch a basketball. He isnt super athletic but he is coordinated and ambidextrous and he uses constant speed and direction changes to keep opponents off balance and to create space. He is basically the poster boy for basketball IQ and skill at running an offense. It just doesnt get much better.

Now that he is surrounded by superior talent while not being required to play as many minutes you can expect great things from Steve bottom line. Once you see him run the pick and roll with Gasol a few times you will understand.

Both. He has always had the "issue"(I put quotes because he's the definition of pass first PG) of avoiding taking shots. Everyone sees his assists and loves his game but it can be VERY aggravating watching pass up open shots to try and get others involved. I think he did slow down a bit last year either because of the condensed season or lack of motivation because of the state of our team.

I think he will look much better in LAL. He has plenty of talent to take the pressure off, and he will stay fresher longer. Last 6 minutes of the game should be interesting to say the least.

I think his back really limited him last season. He simply refused to shoot most of the time. He can still pass and hit a stand-still wide open shot, just don't expect him to create his own shot that isn't a layup.

and I hope Dwight and Pau are ready to defend the paint, because he can't play D anymore. He's worse than Derek Fisher ever was.

Don't say that. Steve Nash has been the leader and workhorse of this team for 8 years. Of course I was mad when he signed with the Lakers, but I honestly can't be mad at the fact where that was the only place he could have won a ring and make a huge impact at the same time.
