Official Andray Blatche Thread

Post#1 » by Paradise » Sat Sep 1, 2012 6:12 pm

The Nets’ ongoing search for frontcourt depth has led them to Houston, and a meeting with Andray Blatche, who was cut this summer by the Washington Wizards.

Blatche, 26, has been working out in Houston with a number of other N.B.A. players, under the guidance of John Lucas. He was set to meet with Nets Coach Avery Johnson sometime this weekend, according to two people with knowledge of the meeting. It was not clear whether the Nets were prepared to make Blatche an immediate offer or were simply exploring their options.

The Wizards severed ties with Blatche in July, using the N.B.A.’s amnesty provision to remove his $23 million contract from the salary cap. Blatche will still be paid his full salary by the Wizards, so he is likely to sign for the minimum wherever he lands.

Blatche, a 6-foot-11 power forward, entered the N.B.A. straight from high school in 2005 and was drafted by Washington with the 49th pick. His athletic gifts have been offset by immaturity, erratic play and a suspect work ethic. Washington cited Blatche’s poor conditioning as the official reason for holding him out of a game against the Nets in March.

Blatche played in only 26 of the Wizards’ 66 games last season, averaging 8.5 points and 5.8 rebounds while shooting a career-low 38 percent from the field.

The Nets have 13 players under contract, but they could use another big body behind center Brook Lopez and power forward Kris Humphries.

Seems like the interest is serious for Avery to personally meet with him. I'm all for this signing if it happens because he has really good potential and I really don't see maturity or work ethic being a problem considering Nick Young and McGee were just as bad as him and they both turned out to be difference makers for the Clips and Nuggets in limited roles.

macgyver already posted that here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1196662&start=390

Although, maturity isn't something that can always be blamed on other people. If the Wizards knew that Blatche was a good guy, but he was just involved with the wrong crowd, they would've kept him while they got rid of the other guys. However, that's not the case.

Blatche needs other players, especially veteran players, to help him keep his head in the game. Instead of giving Jerry Stackhouse a clipboard, he could just devote his time to making Blatche a more mature person lol.

Its not just a matter of keep him. For them it was an amnesty issue as well. DO it...dont do it.

For vet minimum take a chance on seeing if getting cut humbled him at all. See if someone in his life finally said...UH OH. A parent...an uncle a former coach...whoever.

See if that light bulb went off this summer to make him hungry and determined.

Now if you go meet him and he is fat and out of shape...if he has been goofing off all summer...move on.

But if you hear ANYTHING good. You see ANYTHING you like? Well, to get a talent THAT good for vet minimum you take on the project. Those type of potential steals are how you close the gap between you and the best teams out there. You have to find a diamond everyone else over looked if you do not have one of the 3 best players in the game.

Well, with Jerry Stackhouse on this roster I'm starting to warm to this idea a little more.

Jerry World will destroy this kid if he starts acting up. Suplex him directly into a Baltic league.

Is Blatche even good enough to dress for this team on a healthy roster?

Wow... I hadn't even thought of that. This changed everything. I want Blatche on the team. That way I could look forward to the inevitable "Blatche ends up with 17 stitches after exchanging punches with an unscathed Stackhouse" article.

Anyway we can sign him and then trade for Green?

Perhaps a deal like Joe Johnson, Brook Lopez, Deron Williams, and Gerald Wallace for Gerald Green and a 2nd round pick?

Watson/Taylor
Brooks/Taylor
Green/Stackhouse
Teletovic/Humphries
Blatche/Humphries

Dynasty.

^

I've been saying for awhile now that we need to sign two of Chris Andersen, Greg Oden and Andray Blatche. Birdman seems dead-set on either MIA or NYK, and G-OD may be a full-time student at OSU this year. But Blatche gives us a low-risk, high-reward bigman who can legitimately cover Cs off the bench. If we can snag him, nice find.

No, cuz we got rid of Green. If we found a way to keep Green, then Tjarks would've been ecstatic.

If Green was still on this team this move would have been 4000000000000x more hilarious just because of that Tjark's article.

Anyways I'm all for Blatche since it's a back up role. If this team is good maybe he can become useful also....I would hope.

Humphries/ Teletovic/ Evans
Lopez/ Blatche

Back up C is I guess what they are getting at. He would make a pretty bad duo with Teletovic off the bench. But, pair him with Evans or Humphries on the bench squad, it could work. Our bench of Watson/ Brooks/ Shengelia/ Evans or Humphries/ Blatche wouldn't be bad.

I think it would be a great opportunity for us cause he would be playing for his career and the next paycheck. Those things would be dependent on how he plays with us this 1 year. Huge motivation on a veteran laden squad is the best situation for him and the team. Definitely take the gamble.

if his head is right, he most definitely is. On talent alone, he should be an above average starting 4, not too much of a stretch to think he should be a serviceable backup 4/5 with a little bit of luck. His per-36 two years ago were 18/8/3 on 48%/75% shooting. Just needs to cut the knucklehead crap.

It was only a matter of time. He was a troll who talked the talk but had nothing behind it.
