I think Meeks might be underrated defensively. Could be a potential fill at the 1 against the likes of Russell Westbrooks and Deron Williams?

Yeah me too,

a core of

Nash
Kobe
Iggy
Hill/Jamison
Howard

is really nutty. Just needed a backup center coming back through trade and we would have been Golden.

No team is perfect at all positions. getting Iggy would have weakened us big time up front. Besides we have 3 sf that will make Durant & Lebron work for theirs.

Iggy is no more of a floor stretcher then Artest, dont let the % fool you, last season was as closest he's ever been to 40% from 3's, for his career his 3pt % is no better then Artest, its actually worse (33% Iggy vs. 34% artest)....whatever advantage we get from the perimiter we would be severly worse at PF, teams with either pack the paint if Hill is starting or just ignore Jamison if he's starting, his % from last year was horrible only good in terms of ppg. You can't have a perfect team, I rather have the advantage of having a good passing/shooting PF like Pau to help open things up for Howard and take chances with Artest then get better on the perimiter but only having Howard protect the paint.

i'm fine with weakening ourselves up front, it wasn't as if our front court talent was being utilised to their fullest extent anyway. especially now given gasol is going to option #3/#4 on most nights, jamison/hill would've done just fine as a 3rd/4th options

defense-wise, i also happen to think removing slow-footed gasol is addition by subtraction and adding iggy on top of that would turn our weakness (perimeter defense) into a strength, especially when teams inevitably attack gasol from the perimeter.

not only that, but our all round court speed would increase and lead to a hell of a lot more transition baskets, rewarding our defense with easy points, something gasol doesn't much of anymore. and if nash can turn the suns into an offensive force, he can sure do that for iggy/artest/jamison/hill

we could've even gone small with nash/meeks/kobe/artest/dwight or nash/kobe/iggy/artest/dwight lineups to seriously wreck teams, and seriously eliminate a lot of the advantages miami/OKC have when they go small-ball

that's just where i'm coming from

I'd much rather have Gasol over Iguodala

Gasol >>>>>> Iggy

especially with Nash on board, let's not act like this is the Artest from a year ago, this Artest played much better at the end of the season and if we were to replace him with Iggy there wouldn't be that much of a difference. They both would play the same limited role.

Meeks isn't a great defender, but he gives good effort. He'll keep improving.
