Reeves Nelson

Post#1 » by seoulman » Wed Sep 5, 2012 2:23 pm

I know he's had some attitude issues at UCLA but I'm really pulling for the kid. I hope he turns out to be a Chris Andersen type player for us. It would be great to bring a guy like this off the bench to provide hustle and grit. He was always hailed for his talent. I don't know what his work ethic is like. But with mentors like Kobe and Nash, I would hope that his work ethic would rise a couple of notches.

In reference to the Lakers signing Nelson to a 1 year non-guaranteed contract (Camp Fodder)

Who knows the guy showed he could play at UCLA against other college kids but how will that transfer over to the pro game?

Honestly i would be very surprised if he made the team!

Whats the point? he wont get to play PF because we have Pau, Hill and Jamison and he wont get to play SF because we'll be playing MWP, Ebanks and Jamison there....he wont make the team.....

Yup....just a camp fodder

We'll probably see 1 or 2 more guys signed to non guaranteed contracts(I'm guessing a wing at least)
Them and at least one of Goudelock,Sacre and Johnson-Odom will be cut eventually

People shouldn't get enthusiastic about these signings and envision their future and role with this team come November...none of them will make the roster

The last couple roster spots are up for grabs

Locks
Dwight
Hill
Jamison
Gasol
Ebanks
Clark
MWP
Meeks
Kobe
Nash
Blake

If Morris or Duhon play like trash they could be bought out,
And Glock, Odom and Sacre are competing for the last two spots

Reeves- was projected 1st round pick at one point, don't excpect much but who knows , he may surprised..

Usually we bring 18 guys to camp, so look for us to bring two more guys in

Just going by the numbers, Nelson is 4th all time in FG% in UCLA history behind Alcindor, Walton and Jelani McCoy.

His soph season (14 pts, 9.1 rebs, 58% FG) led UCLA in all 3 categories, and is the BEST statistical season EVER by a UCLA soph big NOT named Alcindor, Walton or MacLean.

Don't know if he can make the team, but a Mark Madsen-like career is not out of the question - maybe more

We should just tell all of the non-guaranteed guys to practice the hell out of their three point shooting. Best guy(s) earn a spot.

Google him. He basically was a jerk on and off the court, got special treatment from the coach, and ended up ruining UCLA basketball. Other than that he's probably a nice guy once you get to know him.

If character issues are his major problem, maybe the light bulb clicks

Honestly we arent asking for much in a role player

Hit 3's
Play Tough D
Make smart decisions with the ball

with that be said, how is he as a defender can he guard 2 guards???

who else would you guys invite to camp as 18th guy to compete

I say mitch should invite a deadly shooter swingman
and another big to non guaranteed contracts

Gave it a second thought. Not a bad pick up for training camp. This is his chance to prove himself and could light a fire with guys already on the team that might come in lazy and out-of-shape.

so he's now officially signed, as well as this other guy. as per wiretap:

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed Greg Somogyi and Reeves Nelson to contracts.

Somogyi, a 7-3 center out of UC Santa Barbara, played all four years for the Gauchos where he posted career averages of 3.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 12.2 minutes.

Nelson, a 6-8 forward out of UCLA, was also a member of the 2012 Lakers Summer League team where he averaged 4.0 points and 5.3 rebounds in 16.3 minutes of play.

who is this Somogyi guy and why would they be interested in him?

could this Reeves kid play any wing? they already have a plethora of bigs.

They probably got Somogyi because he is 7'3. Eh, I guess NBA teams love height.
