Your dream fights

Post#1 » by SDM » Thu Sep 6, 2012 6:48 pm

Since there's a bit of a MMA lull at the moment...

What are your dream fights? Could be as realistic or unrealistic as you wish.

Silva/Machida is my #1. Aldo/Frankie is my #2 (yay).

Overeem vs Jones for HW Title.

GSP vs Nick Diaz for WW title.

Aldo vs Ben Henderson at 155, non-title.

Silva vs Jones, LHW title.

JDS vs Jones HW title.

Silva/Jones and it isn't close.

Other fun fights:
Cain/Reem
JDS/Reem
Fedor/Brock

Given my disdain for heavyweights, its weird to see the above. I have to think of more. Also, props to the ufc for realizing 2 of my dream fights within the past year: Cerrone/Diaz and Diaz/Condit (even if they weren't as ridiculous as possible, lol).

They need to re-match Condit/Diaz.

I am sure Condit would come out and go for it this time.
He's a fantastic and exciting fighter, he just played another hand.
What is it? 26 of 28 fights were finished?
I want Condit/Diaz to look like Diaz/Daley......two guys going for the fence.

The only thing with that is, Condit came out and said if he "played Nick's game" he would lose. Probably not any coming back from that.

Nick is one my favs and always will be, but he's beatable, and Condit would have a chance.

But like you say, non-engaging pint fighting Condit is not that guy.

Sorry guys, I will not derail this thread with ...... 1,2, 5!!! rant/

Overeem vs JDS
Cain vs Jon Jones
Silva vs Machida
Diaz vs GSP

I might be the only person still interested in Machida vs Silva, I think it would be a cool fight provided Anderson doesn't give him the Maia treatment.

Diaz vs GSp
GSP vs Silva
SIlva vs Jones
Rory vs Condit (just want to see a rematch, I think they could get a good rivalry going)

Most of the ones I'd like to see have been named, but...

HW
JDS vs. Reem
Cain vs. Cormier
Barnett vs. Mir

LHW
...nothing that doesn't involve someone changing weight classes, really

MW
Sonnen vs. Palhares
Stann vs. Lombard

WW
GSP vs. Diaz
Kampmann vs. Diaz

LW
Hard to make dream fights here, since pretty much any matchup between two top 10 (maybe even top 20) guys is pretty awesome

FW
Aldo vs. Edgar

BW
Cruz vs. Torres (still think it would be cool)
Barao vs. Cruz

FLW
Dodson vs. Mighty Mouse

As others have mentioned, so many of my dream fights come at HW, which is probably my least favourite division. Most likely because we see good HW fights so rarely, while in the lower weight classes, most matchups are at least decent.

I wish there was a seperate MortalKombat-style company that threw these events and not Zuffa.

Like, everyone loaned and made a bunch of money on PPVs, like the old Pride vs UFC things.

Seems like half of these fights could easily happen, but with the stretch of too many shows at the top, and injuries, it's a 50/50 on any fight announcement because they might no be a go.

This new stretch, imo, started when Diaz skipped the pressers to fight GSP. It just got the ball rolling into so many fights being moved or cancelled.

All great calls.

Cain vs JJ was teh first to jump to my mind.

I want a rematch of Nate vs Cerrone a lot.

Rory vs Condit re-match is a great call too.

I do not at all want to see Silva vs Jones unless it's at 198-200 pounds. At 205 is nonsense, it's not on equal ground. Jones has to give something up.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

How do you guys think Bones would do against those elite HWs?

I'll be honest, and this may seem silly. I used to say I wouldn't bet against Jon against any man. But honestly after seeing him in a picture with those tight leggings awhile back, I don't know anymore. The dude walks around on toothpicks. He just seems so much more...rag-dollable to me now.

I think he'd struggle quite a bit with those three in particular. Overeem negates his reach advantage, he'd have to take JDS down to beat him but to do that he has to get within his reach which obviously doesn't end well for anyone, and Cain's wrestling/speed are good enough to be able to take him down and obviously he's not overmatched on his feet either.

Forgot about him entirely. Any combo of Cormier, Jones, and Cain. Those are the fights I most want to see. Those three have frames for like 230 or so, essentially.

My #1 dream fight is an openweight bout between Anderson Silva and JDS. People might call it a ridiculous matchup, but is it really any different from Henderson vs. Fedor? I believe that both would keep the fight standing, and I have no idea what would happen. Would JDS be able to KO the man with an iron chin? Would Silva be able to matrix Cigano? It would be crazy and you know that an epic highlight would come of this fight.

My next dream fights would be seeing prime Fedor against the best UFC HWs in their prime- Couture, Brock, Cain, JDS, ect. I'd also like to see Dan Henderson take on prime Chuck Liddell and prime Tito Ortiz.

Nick Diaz vs. Nate Diaz is a fight that will never happen but I would love to see. KZ against Nate Diaz would be great also.

Erick Silva vs. Rory Macdonald is a great fight that has to happen at some point.

Aldo vs. Edgar has been a dream fight of mine for a long time. I'd like to see Aldo move up to LW if he wins, there's a lot of great matchups for him there. If Frankie wins it'd be badass if he moved to BW and get a belt there. I wish more fighters were like Hendo and fought against the best at multiple weight classes.

I really hope that Silva vs. GSP happens. I'd also love to see Silva-Jones. Jones would be great to see against a lot of HWs.

This is partially because I'm a big Torres fan, but I'd love to watch him fight Cruz. Cruz wouldn't be able to dominate the fight with his reach since Torres is longer. Torres also said that his strategy against Dom would be to kick the **** out of his legs to slow his movement down, and I'd be interested to see how Cruz would adjust his usual gameplan against a guy with a longer reach and deadly legkicks. I guess that we'll get to see against Barao though.

Pat Barry vs. Matt Mitrione doesn't really qualify as a dream fight, but I think that it would be a good one.

I'd also like to see a motivated BJ Penn against a healthy Shogun, as they are the two best fighters of all time and are undefeated. It would be an epic fight that ends in a tie as neither man could ever lose.

Chael Sonnen vs. Nick Diaz would be a great fight also. I can't think of a more exciting buildup to a fight either.

1. Jones vs. dos Santos
2. A. Silva vs. St. Pierre
3. Jones vs. A. Silva
4. Aldo vs. Edgar
5. Aldo vs. Cruz
6. A. Silva vs. Weidman
7. dos Santos vs. Overeem
8. Rousey vs. Cyborg
9. B. Henderson vs. Melendez
10. Cruz vs. Barao

How sick would a card with Silva vs. St. Pierre and Jones vs. dos Santos on it be from Cowboy's Stadium be?
