Question for Lakers fans

Post#1 » by Beasley » Sun Sep 9, 2012 3:59 pm

Curious question. If Miami uses this line-up at a particular point of a game vs the Lakers, being:

PG - Mario Chalmers
SG - Dwyane Wade
SF - Ray Allen
PF - Lebron James
C - Chris Bosh

Who defends Lebron James?

Surely not Howard as LBJ will draw him away from the hoop. Would it be Gasol?

Curious question. If LA uses this line-up at a particular point of a game vs the Heat, being:

PG - Steve Nash
SG - Kobe Bryant
SF - Metta World Peace
PF - Pau Gasol
C - Dwight Howard

But who was Howard stopper?

the lakers would so thoroughly punk that line up.

even MWP would get his licks in and go to work on little ray allen

Im guessing Pau Gasol. Gasol would just sag off him daring him to shoot. Which is what you want if your playing defense against Lebron. If he trys to go around Gasol Superman will be waiting. But if you play that lineup the heat is going to get killed playing defense. Who guards MWP?

Who attempts to guard Howard?
Can LeBron guard Gasol, including the P&R and still have energy to carry his team on offense?
How many rebounds can you get with Howard, Gasol and Hill on the team?
Who guards Nash?

In before a heat fans post the 1:47 sec youtube clip of Lebron guarding Gasol for a few possessions. Can he guard Gasol the entire game?

A mix of zone, double team, Metta, Gasol, and Dwight. Gasol and Dwight can switch off on Bosh.

MWP will be guarding LeBron. A matchup that Miami will be able to exploit to a large degree but we have some favorable match ups working in our favor also. Are they really going to use Chalmers to guard Nash? Bosh, Haslem or Anthony to guard Dwight and when one of those guys are tied up trying to slow Dwight who's left to guard Pau? Dwyane Wade single coverage on Kobe? Ok that works for me...

We really need to hope we stay healthy this year because a finals Matchup between the Lakers and Heat would be so EPIC!! It could easily turn out to be the greatest NBA finals evahhhhh!!! (sorry I get carried away sometimes!)
Sometimes being wrong is awesome!!! :D

@Acecardz

If MWP is guarding LBJ then who does Gasol guard, assuming D12 is on Bosh.

Assuming we are not playing zone in you scenario D12 would have to play either Chalmers, Wade, or Ray Allen. I think that was the OP's point.

A better line up for you is:

Wade/Allen/Battier/LeBron/Bosh

The better question is how do the Heat get a rebound with that line up.

Bosh and Lebron boxing out Howard and Gasol? lol. Howard shouldnt have any trouble pushing Bosh around and Gasol is about 5 inches taller than Lebron.

Lakers would have size advantages at the 2,3,4, and 5.

Who guards Gasol? Gasol should absolutely dominate anyone they put on him with that line up including Lebron. On defense the Lakers can put Gasol on Battier and Artest on Lebron.

The Heat dont match up well with the Lakers.

i'd be very eager to see how lebron does trying to handle pau gasol for an entire game and not just one small stretch where the refs let him get away with a million fouls on pau.

I can kind of imagine a scenario, where there is game 7 in a Heat/Lakers finals, with 3 seconds to go in the end of the game and Kobe is doubled. He passes it to Gasol only to have him pass to someone else and time runs out.

Pls stay aggressive this year PAU

You answered your own question....of course it's Gasol. And it favors us in a lot of ways. For one all Miami will do is iso James up top anyway. Secondly Gasol doesn't have to worry about getting beat knowing he has the bonafied shot blocker behind him.

That line up spaces the floor but the Lakers have been pretty good at defending the 3 in past years, so we know the ball will most likely stay in James hands. It's pretty simple, he's not throwing it to Chalmers, Wade will be covered tightly by Kobe or Metta seeing as both of them could just switch anything anyway.

That leaves Howard on Bosh...who also ISN'T getting the ball, so like I said it leaves James in an iso on Gasol who has block game winning jumpers from deep several times for the Lakers. And if James decides to drive, it plays right into the Lakers hands.

I don't know why you thought this line up of the Heat is some devastating crew to put on the floor.

No Ace, MWP can't do that. The reason the OP listed the lineup he did was to do what Miami will try to employ on the the Lakers........main objective spacing the floor and opening lanes for James to drive. But it retards itself because of the shot blocking and our ability to switch things on the perimeter even with Nash on the floor.

Don't get me wrong we'd take our chances with Metta on James but with that specific lineup the OP listed, spacing and and opening an iso situation is what they want. But like iamworthy said, Gasol can just sag off too which all it will do is stall the ball movement.

Bottom line is the OP thought he thought of a lineup that could cause a problem for the Lakers, but it actually makes things worse for the Heat on both sides of the ball.

NO TEAM can match up with our size. But it will be also hard for us to match up against that line up (Wade/Allen/Battier/LeBron/Bosh) especially when their wing players are shooting the lights out. They will also try to speed up the tempo.
