I don't think people have given your team enough credit. In my opinion, you have a complete team.

Thanks man!

My favorite teams so far...

INDIANA PACERS
Gasol and Hibbert is quite a tall front court. Nash and Ginobili is a very smart backcourt with still a lot of game left. Having Dorrell Wright as a young 4th/5th option at SF is a very nice touch. Metta statistically probably would produce as much as he does for the Lakers, but that's ok.

DALLAS MAVERICKS
Championship roster in my opinion. 3 Allstars in Horford, Dirk, and Joe. Felton should average 8-10 apg on this squad. Only thing I don't like is the lack of legitimate defensive role players on the team. Offensively though, this team is scary knowing that besides the allstars, it also has Ben Gordon off the bench to light it up.

DENVER NUGGETS
I absolutely love this roster's identity. Young rugged lineup of Lowry, DeRozan, Melo, and Josh Smith. Lack of veteran presence to keep the ego's in check is a concern, but I think this team has the most talent spread across every position. Team does not lose a beat with Hinrich and JR Smith off the bench. If Okafor and Jermaine O'Neal can split 48 minutes grabbing rebounds and blocking shots, I would have this team in the Finals. However, I don't like Paul Westphal as coach only because I think he may be out of touch with today's NBA. He was a good coach in the 90's and that was it. If he didn't get along with DeMarcus Cousins, how would he get along with the attitudes on this team? Players would see Westphal as a has been and tune him out. I do admire the creativity in the choice though, that's what BAT is all about.

UTAH JAZZ
Chris Paul and Kevin Love is the best PG-PF pairing in this BAT. Gordon Hayward, Courtney Lee, and Mike Dunleavy Jr should each knock 40% from three playing off those two. Offensively this team is a force to be reckoned with.

PHOENIX SUNS
The trio of Lebron/M. Gasol/Brooks should do damage the next 5 years. Bass, Nelson, and Tmac are good vets to have on a Lebron team, but some of the other players are a little too random of choices for my tastes. I'd prefer the team to be a little younger to at least have a better identity as a team, rather than it look like a bunch of players who will automatically look good playing next to Lebron.

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES
Workhorses at the PF/C positions in Faried, Garnett, Lavoy Allen, and Dalembert. Harden may be the best shooting guard in the league after Wade and Kobe (though you can argue Joe Johnson is still better. Paul PIerce takes the pressure off Harden to carry the team offensively. Could be a little stronger at point guard, but they'll get by with Chalmers, Kidd, and Lucas.

What was the trade? Who were you giving up JR Smith for?

Yeah agreed. Thornton really is more of a 6th man. He's got one skill, and that's scoring for himself. At 6'3"-6'4" he's really not an ideal sized SG. He does do what he does real well though.

moocow, your team would be in my favorites if you didn't have Elton Brand as your starting center. I think Brand can handle 2nd unit guys at that position, but playing 30 minutes a night there with Lee beside him could really take a toll on him throughout an entire season.

See that's where I think people aren't looking at this close enough and are just looking at his height...

Brands actually one of the best post defenders in the NBA (based on advanced stats he held opposing players to 28% FG in the paint which was actually far better than a pretty much most of all "real C's" out there)...doing it with a combination of strength, toughness and basketball IQ.

Realize...at his age he's not the best in chasing opposing PF's around but should be fine if he was able to be more focused defending opposing C's. Brand has always been one of the strongest players in the NBA and that really hasn't been impacted by his loss in footspeed.

FYI...he blocked 1.6 shots per game despite averaging only 28.9 minutes a game (that's also among the highest block per minute played in the NBA)...and was basically the guy that would defend the opposing teams best offensive post player every game (making him kinda the defacto C for the Sixers the past several seasons). And with Marion's terrific perimeter and weakside defense it should more than cover for David Lee's defensive weakness (Lee's sandwiched between 2 strong defenders...arguably two of the strongest defenders for their spots...one in the post, the other on the perimeter...in the NBA).

Yes, on the surface it may seem to be an odd choice, but if you actually look at it a little closer, Brand moving to C (where his strength, physical size, toughness and understanding of the game...along with his potent post defense and shotblocking ability) is actually the ideal move for him even in real life. Older PF's usually find that a move to C prolongs their career.

And I really don't need Brand to play more than 30 minutes a night. Lee and Andersen both have played C and I have more than enough depth and versatility to move a lot of guys around to play PF (Marvin Williams is a stong, physical guy that can more than handle quite a bit of minutes at PF...why I picked him and didnt want to trade him even though I got several offers for the guy). Also if you take a look, I have a lot of guys that can pass and rebound the ball (even at the guard positions) which will make it a challenge for most teams (even the so called "defensive ones") to keep up with me.

Well moocow, considering you're in the East, and most of my favorite teams are all out West, you may have one of the better teams in the conference. I'm still pondering what the chemistry would be like between Deron and Tyreke. I do like Williams playing with "smart" players in Marion, Lee, and Brand though.

I think a team like mine athletically would give yours a hard time. I could throw a lineup out of Teague, Dudley, Gee, McGuire, and Chandler, get constant defensive stops and run your guys off the floor.

Yes, Evans is the one that I'm actually kinda been bouncing back and forth with. He's got the talent and the tools but does he have the mentality to make it happen.

I think on a team with a lot of vets, with a superstar, more talent, better leadership and a no nonsense head coach (that still has shown he can get through to quite a similar type guys) he should be able to re-adjust enough of his game to be a plus instead of a question mark. Unlike on the Kings where often it really was just him and not much of anything else, he's got a lot of guys on this team that can handle the ball, pass the ball and run with him. He should still get his points and he'll have plenty of targets to pass to on the run than he had in Sacramento. I think he'll be fine.

 Just trimming a little salary by adding a less expensive player whose actually a little better than the guy being waived.

Thanks ctorres for the writeup, I agree on most counts team perception wise and although the coach was a bold move (imo) he does have lots more talent to coach than that Sacramento Kings team. He won't have to convince the PG here (Lowry) to not dominate the ball, we have our offensive alpha male in place (Melo) so there's no question who the offense runs thru, we have a PF (J Smoove) capable of running the offense which means he'll be getting the ball and making decisions which should keep him happy, and a SG who should be more of an impact as the 3rd option on the team (DeRozan).

I'm really looking forward to seeing the progress Oden makes under our head trainer Steve Hess.

And yeah, I think that Mavs team is a tough out for anyone, even before I made my trades I felt they were the cream of the teams in the West, they'll be old soon though.... really soon ;)

Aren't waived players supposed to count against the cap?
