I wouldn't count on anything, to be honest. We've already entered unprecedented territory.

Madison.com has picked up the Blitz's story. Congrats to Jon :D

I didn't realize they switched to a zone blocking scheme. Seems like an idiotic decision to be honest. When you are known as one of if not the best schools in the country for o-line play, why make a major change like that?

Really? They thought going to a ZBS was a good idea? Morons.

Haven't watched the Badgers this year, but it's hilarious to me that this new OLine coach was a ZBS guy. That's a terrible hire, and I don't mean that as a slight to Markuson.

You'd think the first question in the interview process would go something like this.

"We know you're a ZBS guy first. Would you be willing to change that philosophy or will you continue to run the ZBS?"

He either answers he's not willing to change in which case you no longer consider him or he says he's adaptable and changes to the style they're accustomed to.

Or you rub your hands together and say, "It's just crazy enough to work."

8 months later, "Wow, it was way too crazy."

Hey guys, I have an idea. Every starting offensive lineman we have weighs at least 320 pounds. Let's surprise defenses and zone block them!

We've used a ton of zone running going back decades. It was a huge part of Barry's success. That being said, if this new guy was a pure ZBS guy then it was a bad fit.

Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema on Monday confirmed the firing of offensive line coach Mike Markuson.

"(We) decided to move on," Bielema said. "It was really something that wasn't a knee-jerk thing by me."

Bart Miller, as reported, is being promoted to OL coach.

Bielema acknowledged he hopes Miller can be a bridge between what the linemen learned under former offensive line coach Bob Bostad and what offensive coordinator Matt Canada wants to do.

Bielema says there were no "personality" issues between Markuson and the players.

Why make the move now?

Bielema said he learned in his early seasons as a coach that if you see a move needs to be made, make that move immediately instead of waiting until after the season.

Asked what he thought the worst-case scenario would be, Bielema said: "We don't get better."

He believes the unit will improve but it will take time to regain the form UW fans grew to appreciate in 2010 and 2011.

Bielema said this decision wasn't made overnight and that he makes it clear, through consistent discussions with his staff, that assistants know what is expected of them.

He slept on it Saturday night and when he got up Sunday knew that move had to be made.

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

When Canada was hired, i was hoping that Bielema would have Canada learn Chryst's offense, keep that offense in place, and then just add some tweaks.

Agreed, keep his offense but with maybe less flash that tended to get Chryst in trouble.
