Spurs To Workout Japeth Aguilar

Post#1 » by secky017 » Tue Sep 11, 2012 10:33 am

The San Antonio Spurs will workout Japeth Aguilar.

Aguilar is a former No. 1 draft pick of the Philippine Basketball Association.

Aguilar played collegiately at Western Kentucky for two seasons and is 6-9, 225 lb. forward.

Anyone familiar with this guy from the Philippines? How was he during his 2 seasons at Western Kentucky?

He was oft-injured during his stay with WKU.

He chose to play for his country rather than play for the professional league there (Philippines). But his stint was mediocre at best.

He has good athleticism and is good defensively. However, he lacks a diverse offensive repertoire.

He'd be lucky to get a training camp invite.

Good athleticism. Low basketball IQ. As mentioned, he is very passive. I doubt he can translate to the 3 smoothly. Has a bad motor.

Wang ZhiZhi and Yi Jian Lian pretty much schooled him during the Asian Games, thus his lack of playing time after that. Highly touted coming out of WKU but never really improved. Such a false hope given the hype, and he had been included in two Philippine National teams, but still not able to play despite being the physical specimen that he is.

Chases every block possible, thats all he does. Think of Ajani Williams, with low basketball IQ.

He is really athletic for a 6'9" player though. But nothing to look at... shouldn't even be discussed.

Anybody can make a highlight. But base on the this clip, he move well without the ball, very athletic ( more athletic than Yi and more moves vs Yi as a one dimensional player), and I think there is more room for him to grow given the oppotunity. The outside shooting will come.

Other people's highlights would be over the course of several months or years of games. This one is only from the Jones Cup which is just about a month long or so.

He's had his chances in the local league. He has yet to prove anything despite being taller over ALL the players in our midget league.

Then again valid issues could be:
+ Never really had a coach that trusted him
+ Inconsistent playing time

Among others.
