Josh Childress signs with Nets

Post#1 » by Paradise » Tue Sep 11, 2012 10:00 pm

Howard Beck ‏@HowardBeckNYT 49m
Josh Childress has agreed to terms with the Nets on a one-year deal.

I don't like it but I hope considering it's non-guaranteed, this won't stop Billy from going after other free agents that will make an impact unless this was Joe's call.

Deron/Watson/Taylor
JJ/Brooks/Bogans
Wallace/Childress/Toko/Stackhouse
Humphries/Tele/Evans
Lopez/Evans/Blatche

Not too bad.

I thought Childress was a decent player before he left the league to go to Greece. I would have preferred to give James an other shot personally but again such a low end add...who cares.

The problem with this team is not the middle or the bench at this point. Its the top. We failed to get Dwight and that ultimately is what will keep us from become a true contender. Now of course our guys could surprise us and fit together better than expected...but I doubt it.

Losing Dwight wasnt King's fault unless you are of the mindset the pick we wasted for the Gerald Wallace rental+Bird Rights trade could have made the different in a deal with Orlando. Either way of course giving up that pick and pretending it was the reason Crash is on the team this year is silly. We had the cap space to sign him and 3 years same average per year gets it done.

Since that terrible move...hard to be overly angry about anything we have done. Teletovic for 3 mil per was great. Most of think Blatche was a quality low end add for the price. JJ didnt cost us assets...but of course he is a massive hit cap wise who would have made a much sexier #3 player than a #2 guy....again back to Dwight.

Watson was a terrific addition.

I dont have a strong opinion about Evans, Taylor or Toko or Toko.

I think there is huge pressure on Deron now. What can he do with it?

You know...my team logo for my basketball league at CBS for many years was the cartoon afro guy they had listed. And the first time I saw Childress with that fro I said, "look! He IS my logo!"

Some of you already know my story of switching fan bases from phoenix to brooklyn, IMO I like it. Childress was a key player with ATL before he went to euroleague. Then he had one horrible year overseas and his last one was good. From since he came back he was buried behind the rotation of Grant Hill and Jared Dudley, however when he did play for the small fraction of minutes he did impact games.

Although he's not a great outside shooter, he's a good wing defender and a little above average rebounder for his position, he's a pretty good slasher as well. On top of all this it's a non guaranteed deal, so all in all I'm happy about the decision to sign him but I would've been even more happy if the brought back Terrance Williams

He was completely awful for Phoenix last season, and his defense has been poor too for Phoenix.

On a deal like that. Fantastic pickup. Him and Blatche are both fantastic signings, the benefit of being a contender in one of the best cities in the world.

Crash ain't exactly an iron man, so this could be a golden opportunity for Childress to get minutes on a good team.

Definetly a nice pickup.

like this more than the blatche signing. i watch and follow the suns quite a bit, josh is still a very good player. that contract was ridiculous, hes a role player, but when he got on the court in phoenix, he did his job... ds up, rebounds, youll never see him take a bad shot, and he makes smart, crisp passes. he started his time in phoenix by breaking his finger in a preseason game, played with it in a sprint, still did well, but alvin liked jared dudley more, better shooter, better offensive player, and grant hill, who has been just a silly good player for the suns, certainly still commanded minutes over josh. trying to find youtube vid which shows some phoenix footage, came across this... summary of his 2010-11 year in phoenix. scope the d

I feel better about the little moves we made this summer than the big ones. That isnt to say I expect more from them. Its just that our biggest moves have to make you hold your breath. Our smaller moves have the potential to be pleasant surprises.

Sort of OT, but Mike Schmitz is the F'ing man. His video breakdowns are sweet and he puts some great background music a lot of the time haha.

i like that were set to have an extremely competitive camp. derons up for it, guys are already working together, childress and blatche will be fighting to make the roster, and weve got some veteran workers on the team. crash, evans, hump, stackhouse, even shengalia and teletovic have reps as gym rats with great competitive drive. hoping it helps guys like jj, marshon, and brook, players who need to feed off that kind of restless energy from teammates

Been out of the loop for a minute. I am 50/50 on the move. If anything, it should add solid depth (if he makes the team).
OKC Thunder fan, too.
