Game 1, Friday 7:07 pm
Matsuzaka(1-5) 7.20 ERA @ Laffey(3-5) 3.43 ERA
Dice-K recorded just four outs his last start, also against Toronto, but the belief is he figured something out in a side session this week. The Sox considered taking him out of the rotation.
Laffey rejoined the Blue Jays rotation on Sept. 8 after J.A. Happ was diagnosed with a fractured right ankle. In his first start back, Laffey allowed two runs in 4 2/3 innings against Boston before the game was delayed due to rain.
Game 2, Saturday 1:07pm
Buchholz (11-6) 4.46 ERA @ Villanueva (7-5) 3.48 ERA
Buchholz has lost his last three decisions, but he hasn't allowed more than four runs in his last three starts. He threw 121 pitches in a loss to Toronto last time out, nearly going complete.
Villanueva surrendered three runs on seven hits over six innings during his last start against the Red Sox. He has now thrown eight quality starts in 13 outings out of the rotation this season, but is just 5-5 over that span.
Game 3, Sunday 1:07 pm
Lester (9-11) 4.99 ERA @ Morrow(8-6) 3.16 ERA
The last time Lester faced the Blue Jays was disastrous for the lefty: he gave up 11 runs in four innings. He's been a much better pitcher on the road this season, with a 3.34 ERA.
Morrow struggled with the location of his fastball and the quality of his secondary pitches during his last start against Seattle. He allowed four runs on 11 hits over just 4 2/3 innings in his worst outing since returning from the DL on Aug. 25.
