Stealing Stephen Curry?
Stephen Curry will be a restricted free agent next summer. No signs of an extension yet. If we let everyone expire, and pick up all our team options (and Marvin doesn't opt out), this is what we'll have next summer:
______ / ______ / ______
Hayward / Burks
Marvin / ______
Favors / Evans
Kanter / ______ / ______
That's pretty cool for less than $26 Million. Compare that to the Warriors, who will already be over $65M before resigning Curry (assuming Biedrins, Jefferson, Landry, and Rush don't opt out). Yes, they have Bird Rights on Curry, but it still hurts to pay that much for a squad that surely will underachieve (I mean, its the Warriors, right?).
We need a point guard, and the best one available might be Stephen Curry. After GS tanked, I don't see any need to preserve good relations with the Warriors. So...what kind of deal do we offer Curry?

Re: Stealing Stephen Curry?
He's played three years:
-80 games (missed 2)
-74 games (missed 8) (missed a few games in December)
-26 games (missed 41)
Last year he missed January 6th, came back January 20th. Then he missed February 28th, came back for March 4th. But it only lasted four games, and then he sat out the rest of the season.
I wonder how ready he'll be. A month ago:
"It's been a three-month rehab and I'm making good progress," Curry said. "We're being patient with it, so that by Oct. 31 I am playing without any restrictions and no hesitation."

A healthy Curry was an big time all star in fantasy basketball. I would say if healthy he will be demanding the max and probably deserves it.
He's got game the Jazz could use. How does he feel about Utah? Is he married yet?

Curry+Favors makes me so horny.

Signing Curry would be poetic justice for the Jazz, but I assume that GSW will just amnesty a player so that they can resign Curry to a max deal.

That totally slipped my mind. Didn't they amnesty Charlie Bell? I forgot how that all happened.

Re: Stealing Stephen Curry?
My opinion is that Stephen Curry is the MOST over-rated player in the NBA. He is a terrible defender and not a PG whatsoever. He plays PG equally to Randy Foye. He is VERY similar to Randy Foye. He is also injury prone. by the way the 2nd and third most over-rated players have Jazz ties (Carlos Boozer and Big Al Jefferson). People Defense is part of the game. I dont pay big money to one demension players that cant play defense.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

Re: Stealing Stephen Curry?
Career Statistics
Stephen Curry: 17.5 PPG, 5.8 APG, 3.4 RPG | 47% FG | 44% 3PT | 90% FT
Randy Foye: 11.6 PPG, 3.2 APG, 2.4 RPG | 41% FG | 37% 3PT | 86% FT
You can argue Curry's a liability on defense, but he destroys Foye in every way on the offensive end. They have very little in common, in my opinion, beyond the fact that they're not gifted setup men -- but even at that, Curry's significantly better.

I'd be willing to throw A LOT of money at Curry if he's healthy.

Re: Stealing Stephen Curry?
Cool. That will put them further into the tax if they want to use their bird rights on Curry, which makes him a bit easier to get.
At the very least, we could front load the deal. They let Ellis go, and I bet they'll do what it takes to bring Curry back. But, there's the outside chance he gets offended by the lack of extension talks before then. If Curry doesn't want to play for the Warriors, they're less likely to match.
Unless we can make a play for Rondo, Wall, or Westbrook, I think we should go after a healthy Curry. I don't think he's worth a max deal, but that might be what it takes.

Re: Stealing Stephen Curry?
Both Curry and the Warriors seem eager to get a deal done before the season starts at the end of October, but even if that doesn't happen, I see the Warriors ownership going into the luxury tax to keep him this offseason, assuming that he has a good year. I'm not saying it'd be impossible for the Jazz to grab Curry, but unless some other point guard comes along that causes the Warriors to have second thoughts, they'll overspend to keep him. That said, he'd be a great fit on the Jazz, especially if you were to start Hayward alongside him at shooting guard.
