Dr Positivity wrote:Hey guys, random question since you guys are more informed than me, what's the biggest thing preventing the Maloofs from moving the team to Kansas City? Maloofs get to pull off their plan of "sell tickets in a new city, don't sell the team" to pay off their loans, KC would be probably willing to chip in some relocation money to lock in a team if they were willing to build an arena just for a better chance at getting the NBA/NHL, and Stern would probably be cool with it because they used to have the Kings and there's not many heartland NBA franchises. Is there something I'm missing?

Edit - Saw pill's post about relocation... that's definitely a concern because of timezones. What it'd have to align with IMO is whatever happens with Seattle (since relocation before then would be dumb anyways). An expansion Seattle team would mean Sac can move wherever they want easily because they'd just be the 6th team in whatever timezone they land in (for KC, Central or Southwest). If it's a team moving to Seattle, either Milwaukee or Memphis would fit the KC plan perfectly timezone wise, as it'd be a straight Pacific/Central or Pacific/Southwest team swap

Quite simply they aren't interested in the market. They've already rebuffed Kansas City. When the Anaheim garbage was going down I think they were one of the ones that came out in an article and stated that they tried to contact the Maloofs about interest in moving there but they seemed deadset on looking elsewhere. The Anaheim deal was unique in a way that it's highly unlikely any other situation like it will come up. Little do they know that they would have lost their team to Samueli, hahaha.

Ticket sales aren't going to turn this thing around for them, they thought being in one of the biggest media markets would. May be wrong but most of the cities being rumored are smaller markets than Sacramento is anyway, hence why so little interest. I think they finally realized it's probably better for them to just wait it out in a building where they don't have to pay rent.

Yeah, the issue is that they're not leaving until their loans are paid off. So they're going to need a situation like Anaheim, where somebody with Samueli's cash is willing to pay off their loan for them.

God I hate them.

Like that scratch on your back you can never reach. Will this ever end :(

Is it possible for them to remain in this status quo for like 3-4 more years sitting in Arco trying to find buyers that will never grant them what they want?

At what point will they HAVE to make a decision this way or another?

Looking at the numbers the Maloofs are stuck. The team isn't worth enough for them to break even & they are barely making any money at Arco. If ticket sales/merchandise drop it would put more pressure on them to sell now. If we keep buying tickets & stuff it will buy them more time & hold us hostage longer. It's just a matter of time before they are gone. If they can't get 400 million plus for the team or make a deal to move then they could be here for a while.
