In 2012 it's amazing how stupid some people can still be.

I'm not saying this is in any way Yunel Escobar’s fault, but clearly someone is in the wrong. This could become a very big story in Toronto.

yeah, this is not going to end very well at all. even if escobar didn't write it, he's certainly a dolt for still wearing them. i understand the looseness of how the term is thrown around amongst latinos (my colombian buddies use it all the time on each other), still doesn't excuse the fact that it's something you just don't make public...by wearing it on your face of all places. god dammit.

Homophobic slurs, sexist and racist slurs should all be open game. In fact, he should be commended.

Gotta suspend him. Any less makes the Blue Jays look very unprofessional. I am surprised the manager would let him walk out there with any text on his eye black at all.

A Yunel-like situation if I've ever seen it.

Looks like a bit of clubhouse humor gone wrong. No matter who wrote it, Yunel was stupid to wear this out there. Just have him apologize and move on, though. Really don't think anybody should skewer him over this without proper context.

I'm not offended by it. It's just something that shouldn't be seen in professional sports.

he's always done a few things which made me question his mental acumen. part of me also questions a guy living in North America for 7 years, playing with many American players and who still insists on a translator when he talks to his coaches or conducts interviews. he seems really, really slow. that's the best way to describe it and that's how i thought prior to this incident.

by the way, there are two posters in this thread who really should give their heads a shake. "Maricon" means "****", as far as I can understand. hell, use Google Translate. Replace "****" with "n_____" or any other derogatory racial epitaph and perhaps you can understand why this is so very wrong.

Athletes are role models. They are on television and, as you can see from this story, are in the news. I sincerely hope Yunel's suspended by the Jays, not the league, for at least 10 games. the sad thing? Yunel (and some of our posters) will still have no clue as to why what he did was wrong.
