Metta wants to go 73-9

What he thinks about the team possibly not having Dwight Howard at the start of Training Camp:

“We definitely want to beat the Bulls record and go 73-9, that’s definitely something that I want to do. Whoever is out there at the beginning of the season then we gotta get it. It’s as simple as that. We just have to go get it. (Host: So that Bulls record is something you’re thinking about?) No question. You try to snatch records before you leave this earth. You gotta try to do a lot of great things so it’s definitely a goal. With Dwight Howard, (Steve) Nash, Kobe (Bryant), myself, Pau (Gasol) and then (Antawn) Jamison and a lot of great additions it’s something that’s possible.”

What it will take for the Lakers to overtake the Thunder:

“I think people still have to go through the Lake Show. I think everything goes through the Lake Show. We had a bad season last year. If we don’t turn the ball over in a couple of games then we’re up 3-1 in that Oklahoma series, actually up 3-2, going back LA so with that said confidence remains.”

What he thinks the Lakers are missing:

“Nothing. We feel great. I saw Jamison today and people forget that he is one of the best offensive rebounders in the game, he has the best touch out of everybody in the NBA, he has the best touch out of all the big men in the game so you figure a guy like that and then we have some great players off the bench so we’re confident, I trust in myself and I trust in my teammates most importantly.”

If he feels that he gets overlooked when people talk about the Lakers:

“To me, I know I’m definitely one of the best players in the league, there’s no question. I proved that when I got into shape so I don’t need to be, I’m definitely one of the best defensive players to ever play the game so people can deny it if they want but it’s okay. I do my own thing, I market myself in my own way so I really don’t need to be marketed or talked about throughout the outlets because I do that on my own. On this team nobody plays defense like Metta World and nobody in the league plays defense like Metta World so I don’t really need to prove that.”

73-3?? Can we do it??
Will MWP's game back up all this talk?

discuss...

Metta being Metta. Don't think that it's possible in this era of the NBA, schedule is too demanding and the west it too deep with good teams. Too many factors have to go right, for one with Dwight out to start the year there is no way they can even match the Bulls start of 41-3.

They also won 33 road games, that's not going to be done playing in the west. They went 39-2 at home, again not going to be done. And they went 24-4 in their division, that's a doable record for us because our only comp in our division is the Clippers.

Of their 10 losses, only 3 came to teams in the west and of the 7 other losses in the east no team beat them twice. And they only played 17 back to backs, only losing once. Also they went the whole month of January undefeated, something else that won't happen in this era of the NBA.

Bottom line is it's a nice record to shoot for, but odds are stacked against us.

Its possible if the chemistry is there straight away but I don't know about that in there first season together, maybe next season if there all in the best shape of there lives.

Metta World Peace has been very opinonated since winning a title with the Lakers when he had a good game. Please stop the comments and start working to regain your game. The Lakers do not need any more distraction and mental losses due to unquestionable character or physical assaults. What this team needs from you is a strong effort to play at the highest level possible find your shot and bring a good offensive and defensive game each night the purple and blue gold and white play. Learn to keep your month shut and play good basketball that made you a premier defender in the NBA. Thank you.

he should shut his mouth honestly, he hasn't been able to defend Durant ever since the 1st year he was here and he never been able to check Lebron either. Only top end SF he's consistently bothered is Melo as of late.

Metta wants attention. Forget 89% of the regular season games. Just win 89% of the play-off games (it = championship).
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!
