I don't remember anyone saying he can't hit but it's not looking good so far. Hard to argue about his defense but one good week at the plate doesn't make him a good hitter.

A. You obviously never paid attention.

B. The guy is a rookie, in his first couple months in the big leagues, and currently has an OPS higher than our everyday SS. Give him a little slack...

A higher OPS with less at bats, about 1/4 of the sample size that Escobar has. His minor league stats suggest he's not a good hitter and never has been. That doesn't mean he won't figure something out, but let's not get carried away saying he can hit when he's played less than 2 months in the majors.

Nobody can say if he can hit or not yet with limited at bats at this level. Which is why i said it's not looking good so far, comparing his season to Escobar's doesn't mean much when he himself has had a bad season for his standards. It's too early to call hech a good hitter.

He is trending upwards and getting better. People have been saying how he has good at bats and his swing is better than they anticipated. They either know nothing about baseball or you have unrealistic expectations.

The point is... He's held his own in his first big league experience. People ignorantly insisted this guy was like the worst hitter in the history of all of baseball when he was in the minors. When he made strides, they dismissed it. Not many people even seemed willing to give him a chance.

At this point I'm pretty confident Gose can fill Davis' role next year without missing a beat and at a fraction of a cost. I'm starting to feel the same way about Hech too.

Spend on the starting pitching, LF/1B/DH.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."
