Thanks for the writeup WB, but you made one oversight... You failed to mention Anthony Randolph in your analysis. And Anthony Randolph MEANS dominance.

Picks don't disappear just because they put you over the max roster size. You can always trade them later, up to the point where the pick is on the clock. That's the only time it would disappear.

If WB still had 263, he could trade it + a player for another player, for instance.

Jazz
overview
I’m usually not a fan of Jazz’s teams because he usually opts for the apparent consistency of the old and moldy players, but over the last few seasons, he’s diversified his portfolio. This year’s model (mixing metaphors) is full of young guys. And, don’t look now, but Jazz even has ROOKIES! FOUR of them to be exact. But who am I to talk, since I basically drafted 2 of them for him. At least he has 50-year-old Camby who brings the median age back up to the mid 30s. Seriously though, here’s how I see Jazz’s team: great start to the draft. He got a guy absolutely dominant in one category and a 3xDouble threat (Rondo), and then he went and cornered his market with a solid GF and potentially solid C. I would’ve liked to see him go and fortify assists, since he drafted Rondo from the get-go. But I do like Jazz’s strategy. He may not have one dominant cat, but he has enough diversity to do well across the board. For this reason, his glue guys are going to be critical (see X Factors, below). To be honest, I’m not sure how his numbers will match up week to week, but I think he’ll be competitive to earn a 5-4 win in most weeks.
X Factors: Jonas, Felton, and Gee: If they fail to live up to expectations, then his team will too.
Draft Gems: I think Alec Burks at 231 could be a happy surprise for him. Runner up: Harkless (218): The real centerpiece of the DH trade, by the trade deadline, he could be the man in Orlando.
Outlook: Middle of the Pack / On the playoff bubble

BWW
overview
This is redemption year for BWW. Last year saw him lose not one but TWO of his first 3 picks (Eric Gordon and Stephen Curry), and yet he still remained competitive. This year? He very well may already be half-way down redemption road. When looking at his team, the one thing that really stands out is there really aren’t too many gaps. Sure, his assists aren’t too strong, but they’re competitive enough. He also has competitive advantages in boards, 3s, and even the %s. What gets me about BWW’s team is even where a guy may hurt his team (i.e. Jennings’ FG%), he has enough power to make up for it elsewhere (i.e. guys like Gibson and Gortat. At the end of the day, the difference between winning it all and simply making the playoffs will be the strength of his young guys like Green, The Thompson Twins (yep, I just made that up) and Seraphin.
X Factors: Scola (Will he be more the veteran presence or the statistical leader?), Tristan Thompson (did he really improve over the summer?), and Corey Maggette.
[b]Draft Gems
: Gibson. Word is the Bulls want him taking a leadership role this year, and considering the neverending frustration of Boozer, he could step up big. Seraphin: DC has a very fragile front-line, and at any moment, Seraphin could step in and be the starter.
Outlook: Contender

Floppy
overview
I really like how Floppy started the draft. Aldridge and Harden really gave him a solid foundation in points and %s. He then went and grabbed unheralded talent (Leonard) and heralded talent (Lin), to round out his top 4, which I also liked. I would have liked to see him go for more big man stats to build around Aldridge, but I can’t fault him for going for guys like Leonard and Lin. From there, however, the rest is difficult to pin down. The roles and numbers of guys like Rush, NateRob, Kidd-Gilchrist, Teletovic, and even Frye are hard to figure. What I don’t see is much support for his big four, but more of a minestrone soup mix of guys who may or may not pan out this year. At worst, he’ll be a consolation team because his big four will keep him competitive enough to stay in it.
X Factors: Kidd-Gilchrist and Nate Rob: If these guys play to and even above expectations, Floppy will be a tough guy to beat.
[b] Draft Gems
: Nate Rob at 152 was a good grab. He could be starting PG most of the year for Chi
Outlook Consolation team, on the bubble

Really nice writeup. Good reads all around. I thought you might like my team a bit more seeing how a good portion of it was guys you liked enough to draft. But, guess not. I never know how my teams are going to do until the season starts and I start getting some results. I've tried hard to build a team that is good in 5 cats this year, usually I just go for BPA down the line and hope everything works out with just having the most talent. So far I'm like Ofor using that strategy, so I changed it up a bit.

My strategy this year was based on a couple factors:

- Last year I tried to win Turn Overs and even though I thought I focused hard to keep them down I was getting blown out most nights. I chock this up to drafting well and doing a good job on the waiver wire, meaning I had more minutes on the floor most weeks than my opponents and even if my guys were relatively low turnovers the volume of minutes made me a loser in that cat. So, I decided next year (this year) I would punt Turn Overs because even when I try to win them I lose.

- That led to me wanting to win assists, as if you are going to punt turnovers it seems to me you damn well better win assists.

- This year we went to 14 roster slots. That's 280 folks drafted for those counting. I decided this meant 2 things: #1 - I didn't want to be drafting at the end of the draft, just going to be absolute trash there, and #2 - I was going to have some trash on my roster. Seeing that I was going to have trash on my roster I decided to abandon my usual pursuit of clean stats. FG% and FT% went in the punt pile with Turnovers.

- Lastly, I figured, rightly or wrongly, that when I'm looking for a waiver wire add later in the season anyone that can score 8ppg a night will likely be gone all ready. But, maybe I coudl find a garbage stat player or two. So, I threw PPG on the punt pile with TO, FG%, and FT%.

That just left me with 5 categories. 3pt, Reb, Blk, Stl, and Ast. And those are the cats I've been trying to build around since my first pick. Hopefully, I did a reasonably good job. And you know what? I might even be average in FG% as a happy accident.

But, like I said, I never know until they lace um up and we start seeing some real life stats coming in.

Nate Robinson will not be the starting PG for the Bulls. Not on the team run by the league's most defensive minded coach.

I doubt Nate ever starts either. But not because of his defense.. rather because he is a bench player at heart. Wild, problematic, and potent. He can rack up enough stats as a reserve to be worth the pick. Will he? Stay tuned!

not only he's a bench player at heart but also he's a shooting guard in a XXsmall point guard body...

sometimes I really have trouble understanding wb's logic, but I do think Hinrich and Nate are in a timeshare like 27 to 21 or something like that.

Hey Floppy. He did a 2 for 1 to get Tony Parker. He should be short one draft pick.

It's not my logic as much as I totally forgot about Hinrich for some reason. Nate will get enough minutes to be relevant, but he won't be starting. I agree though: I see a pretty serious time share. For Nate, that won't matter though, as he can put up numbers in 20 minutes a game.

I actually do like your team. I guess that didn't come through strong enough. It's the reason I put you on the playoff bubble. You're quite competitive in points, 3s, boards, blocks, steals, and assists but not dominant in any one area, which is why I said I thought you'd go 5-4 most weeks. The real challenge/opportunity for your team, in my often erroneous opinion, will be those x factors. It's likely Jonas and Felton do as well as advertised. Gee could be the real X factor. He was solid last year and should continue that upward trend.

3 team write-ups down, 17 to go.

Done: BWW, Jazz, Floppy
Next up Fran, Frost, and Hopper

BTW, wouldn't it be funny if Floppy and Hopper mixed up their names? It could be Flopper and Hoppy. Food for thought.

Here's my next 3 team previews: Fran, Frost, Hopper
Again, special thanks to Floppy for putting all the teams into a spreadsheet!

Fran
overview
I want to start out by saying that I’d like Fran’s team a lot better with Kobe and Cousins. I thought it was kind of a high price to pay for the 2nd overall pick. I know he got pick upgrades later on, so I’m sure few people agree with me, but I liked his Kobe and Cousins start. Still, Lebron gives him advantages in almost every category, so I see his logic.
So, to review Fran’s team, I call it team “Overlooked”. Outside of Lebron, Fran picked guys who may be easily overlooked: Duncan, Matthews, Bass, Marvin Williams, Turk, Bass, even Tayshaun Prince. Where does that leave his team? Big man stats: Anchored by Duncan, his big man stats are unspectacular (ok in boards, average in blocks) and he’ll need a lot from Dalembert and Bass. Guard stats: he’s weak in assists and steals. His real strength is points, but beyond that, he’s semi-competitive and borderline average. I would have liked to see him go after one dominant stat, but with Lebron, he may be ok.
X Factor: Turkoglu: With Orlando gutted, Turk could go back to his former self and be the homeless man’s Lebron: points, boards, assists, 3s. If he does, Fran should make the playoffs.
Draft Gem: I’d like to say Tayshaun Prince, since he’s a starter and Fran grabbed him in the 200s, but Tayshaun is the most unspectacular player on his roster, and really only provides points. No, I’m going with James Johnson. If he emerges past Evans and others as the starter at SF will push Fran’s team into the playoffs.
Outlook: Consolation

JFrost
overview
While I didn’t love what Fran gave for Lebron, I love what J got. Sure he gave up advantages down the road, but Kobe and Cousins were a great combo: points, percentages, with potential to build on 3s, steals, and blocks. He then added the multi-stat potential of guys like Monta and Deng, adding strengths in assists, steals, and 3s. He did sacrifice %’s along the way, though, and may be weak in that area. I liked the addition of guys like Darren Collison, Marshon Brooks, and Jamal Crawford who will go unheralded for his team, but will also make him strong. I’d label him contender, but I worry a little about the unknowns: Udoh, Crawford, Young, Wes Johnson, Derrick Williams. They could all flame out, and if so, he’ll be mired in the 6-8 spot.
X Factor: Darren Collison: Career rebirth or more of what we saw in Indiana? I think the former. Honorable mention: Udoh. He’s arguably a better C than Dalembert, let’s see if he can show it.
Draft Gem Brooks. He’s going to flourish in the 2nd unit of that Brooklyn team.
Outlook: Playoff Team

Hopper
Overview
Can you say “Big Man Team”? Yep, that’s Hopper. Except, somehow he’s going to be competitive in 3s and points too. Not only did he draft a ton of 3 point shooting big men (Dirk, Bosh, Bargnani), he’s also got the advantage of boards in his guards and forwards. I must admit, I like his strategy. He’s also strong in %s (especially FT), though there are a few guys who might bring those %s down to earth. He’s weak in steals and assists, maybe even blocks, but his TOs should be low enough that he could easily take 6-3 wins most of the weeks. No doubt Hopper will be a contender again this year.
X Factor: Randy Foye. Backing up the aging Mo Williams, Foye could have a ton of potential, and could have starter numbers all year. That’s good and bad for Hopper, good: points and 3s a plenty, bad: his FG% is going to suffer.
Draft Gem: Foye. Everyone else went just about where they should’ve gone. If Foye gets the minutes he should in Utah, he’s going to be MUCH better than his pick 188 position.
Outlook: Contender

I don't see Foye getting more than 18mpg.

Unless we have injures of course. Obviously I would have picked him had I thought he was going to be worthy. I see a down year from last year.

I know. But at this point, the final few picks shouldn't make the difference on your team anyway. You could pick up a surprise sleeper, but I'd wager your team's strategy isn't based on striking gold in the mid to late 200s. Still, I could easily see you making the playoffs, but I'm just not sure yet.

All in all, take my write-ups for what they're worth, silly little commentaries that help me procrastinate doing my real work. I'll probably be wrong about 2/3 of them anyway.

did you give each player a projection and then calculated all the teams or do you just look at the names and then say "this team is strong in assists"

also which are the next 3 teams?
