Clippers exercise option on Eric Bledsoe

Post#1 » by mkwest » Fri Sep 21, 2012 12:49 am

The Los Angeles Clippers today exercised the club’s fourth-year contract option on guard Eric Bledsoe.

Bledsoe, who is entering his third NBA season, has averaged 5.6 points, 2.9 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 19.0 minutes over his career. In 40 regular season games played last year, Bledsoe tallied 3.3 points in 11.6 minutes per game.

The 6’1” guard out of Kentucky made a name for himself during the Clippers 2012 Playoff run, averaging 7.9 points overall while shooting 59 percent from the floor and 43 percent from behind the three-point line. He came into his own in the Clippers second round playoff series against the San Antonio Spurs, tallying 11.5 points while shooting 70 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range.

probably, but still is a great move to keep him available to help our squad and be an insurance policy in case CP3 bolts.

Easy decision. Wouldn't be surprised to see him moved for another young point guard in the middle of the draft just to keep the rookie scale going.

Let's not get carried away, Bled plays 12 MPG, Harden plays 31 and is much better and far more efficient on offense, about 20% TS more

Obvious move, but if Bled can be transitioned to SG, he actually might not be moved, depends on his capability. Chauncey is a short term fill, and Crawford seemed to be brought in as a 6th man. He would need to improve his spot up shooting though.

key here is to get a decent backup for cp3 after bled is dealt through FA.

and take bled's rising stock and (well at least for now) get a decent SF out of dealing him.
bledsoe is insane on the ball and getting better on the offensive end....he battled through coming off a meniscus injury, the same thing that made cp3's 2011 lackluster until he was fully recovered/ comfortable.

some team is gonna feature bled as a starting PG...it's on us to get the proper value back...and send him to that team.

eb is underrated for his capabilities. His defense is far better than most PGs out there and he does have the ability shoot the 3 if/when needed. His height is troublesome though .

His defense is what keeps him on the court because overall right now, he's still a below average offensive player. While he can hit the three once in a while, I wouldn't call it "if/when needed", because the reality is that we just remember the big three's he's hit and forgot the once his missed. His body of work has him as a career 26% 3PT shooter on 2.3 3PTA/36 minutes. A lot of work needed there.

His defense, athleticism, length and strength make him an asset to any team in the league. The difference maker in him being considered a starter quality player versus a spark plug off of the bench is his playmaking/decision-making and his shooting (perimeter and free-throws). He shot great in the playoffs, but it's still an area that he needs to strengthen. He has some great mentors to learn under for the next couple of seasons, so I do have high hopes for him.
