Question about Gerald Green.

Post#1 » by daschysta » Mon Sep 24, 2012 6:35 am

Pacers fan here-

I was just wondering what people here thought about Gerald Green, just based on stats he was actually quite impressive last season for the 31 games he played, and it has always been obvious that he was an elite athlete. He didn't get as much fanfare as a player averaging what he did would normally get, due to the Nets unfortunate record (obviously you guys will be a vastly improved team this year), but i'd like to get the lowdown from the fans who saw him play each and every one of the 31 games. I remember being really excited the year he was drafted, because both he and Granger each fell to the 17th slot we were picking at, and I remember thinking both had star potential, but he fell into obscurity pretty quickly, while Granger turned out to be a very good player, and then Green popped back onto the radar and was traded to us, so...

1. Do you think his performance was "fluky" or do you think he has the skills and foundation to perform comparably or better in a similar minutes role coming off of the Pacers bench as Paul George's backup?

2. What are his major strengths and weaknesses, and what does he need to improve upon most?

3. What do you think that his potential is at this point in his career?

Monster in transition.

Very good outside shooter.

Decent developing midrange game.

In general good mechanics, outstanding elevation, quick release.

Some slashing ability, but mainly assisted off ball.

Average BBIQ.

Shouldn't be expected to be forced into an expanded role.

Sloppy handle.

Limited shot creating ability for himself or others. Limited passer, about average I guess.

Solid help defender.

OK man defender but for such an amazing athlete his lateral quicks are very mediocre but pretty good recovery speed.

Has 4 and a half fingers on one hand.

HAS 4 AND A HALF FINGERS ON ONE HAND

You will never not look at his hand for the rest of his career every time you see him, becasue he HAS 4 AND A HALF FINGERS

This about sums it up. Loved him here last season (as did most Nets fans), very exciting player to watch and seemed to have an entirely different attitude than before (in a good way). If he plays at the level that he did last season, Pacers fans will love him.

Thanks for the answers, I think having a defined role off the bench could be very good for him, we can tell him to score as his primary function, and not force him to carry too much of a load other than that. Good luck next season, Teletovic should be a good consolation prize for losing Green (I think that was the signing that prevented a larger contract offer from the Nets)

The pre-game/ practice dunk contests should be the best in the NBA between he and Paul George, and having them both on the floor at once should be fun between both of them doing ridiculous slams!

I don't remember him ever being as athletic as he has been since the comeback to the Nets. He was super-gifted before, but it looks like he's been doing some serious plyometric training or something. Dude is a freak now. Hops equal to or greater than Vince Carter.

Yeah, he blew my mind in that Houston game, just ridiculous. Paul George can really sky, but Green makes it look effortless, and he gets SO HIGH.

 Basically.

Every time I think about "the windmill," I have to watch it.

We lost two of my favorite pieces in Green and Morrow, but hopefully, it's for the better.

Would've loved to see him land in Denver or Minny.

Return to Brooklyn Nets
