Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
I kinda liked the new JJ Abrams show -- Revolution. Sort of a post-apocalyptic show set 15 years after everything shuts down. First episode was good enough to make me want to see the next episode, but not good enough that I'm hooked for the run of the series (like, say the first 10 minutes of 24 hooked me).
The New Normal is good. Funny, smart, entertaining.
I'm almost embarrassed to admit this, but I'm looking forward to a couple new shows: Elementary (a Sherlock Holmes reboot set in modern-day NYC -- Lucy Liu as Watson), and Arrow (super hero show). The last super hero show I saw (The Cape or something like that) was awful. I'm hoping Arrow will be better.
I enjoyed Warehouse 13, but this last episode went into trainwreck mode in the last 10 minutes. If there's one thing I HATE in a show, it's when characters start explaining everything that just happened.
Can't wait for the new season of Walking Dead to get going.

The new show Last Resort on ABC looks like it could be pretty good. Autumn Reeser.

Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
I'm currently catching up on Breaking Bad. I'm starting Season 3 now. It's a great show.
Dexter is one of my favorites, as is Walking Dead. Season 1 of Game of Thrones was good enough for me to go read all the books. Now that I have read the books, I'm finding Season 2 to be a bit plodding. Falling Skies is pretty good. I find myself consistently enjoying Parenthood. Glee is good for the music, but the plots are pretty bad. Season 3 was much better than the first two seasons.
The only sitcom I find consistently funny is The Big Bang Theory.
I forgot all about Revolution. I liked the promos during the Olympics. I'll have to check it out.

Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
I missed the pilot of Falling Skies, but watched the rest of the first season. It never connected with me -- I think maybe because I never saw that first episode.
Terra Nova was a show that had a great concept (at least for me), but just sucked. How do you screw up a show based on time travel, and humans with modern weapons living in a world with dinosaurs? Answer: bad casting, bad acting, bad writing.

Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
Yeah. Terra Nova was awful. The writing was just terrible.
Falling Skies isn't the best show on TV or anything, but it's good enough that I don't change the channel. It's basically a slightly better version of Jericho, with aliens.
I'm waiting to see a post-apocalyptic build-a-civilization-out-of-nothing show done right. I thought Lost could do it in a Lord of the Flies type of way, but then they took it in a different direction. Jericho wasn't a bad attempt conceptually, but the writing wasn't any good. Falling Skies is better but still not great.
Walking Dead is probably the best of the bunch. They really make an attempt at exploring what life would be like with the total absence of safety, authority and civilization.

Grimm isn't terrible. I record it, and watch when I'm in the mood.

Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
I kinda-sorta like Grimm. My wife records it. I'll watch it with her if I don't have anything better to do. I usually fall asleep on it.
It's one of those concepts that I think could be done a lot better. In fact, it WAS done better with Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
I've been impressed every time I've watched The Good Wife. It's not in my rotation, but when I watch it, I like it. Crummy name for a show, though. Doesn't really fit what they have going.

Final season premier of The Office tonight. Sad how much this show has fallen. The middle seasons(from 2 to about 5)were amazing but since then it's completely fallen off.

closg00 - are you watching Homeland? If not, that's a good one to add to your list. Season 2 starts back at the end of this month.

I'm about the same with Grimm. I watch it, and enjoy it, but my wife is the motivator. The Grimm writers are Buffy & Angel alumni.
In January 2011, NBC announced that it had ordered a series titled Grimm.[5] David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf co-wrote the pilot, which was directed by Marc Buckland. Filming for the pilot began in March in Portland, Oregon.[2] In May 2011 NBC announced that it had picked up the series for a full season.[6]

[Greenwalt] was the co-executive producer of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and co-creator of its spinoff, Angel. He is also co-creator of the short-lived cult television show Profit. He recently co-created the NBC supernatural drama Grimm.

She also loves the Good Wife. The name made a lot more sense in the first couple of seasons.

They're missing the key member of the Buffy/Angel team: Joss Whedon.

Nope, I wouldn't go back in time to watch Oprah. I'll stick with the legal fees, court costs, drama etc.
If watching television with spouse could have preserved marriage then I will stick with watching ESPN, NBATV, dumb stuff like Fuel TV and Spike.
(Reading Nivek's post I almost had an epiphany.)

Man, I really rushed my list, Homeland is on my list also. Claire Danes is amazing. Can't wait to see where they take us this season.

Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
I watched MNF as the Seahawks defeated the Packers and saw some of the worst calls and non-calls, ever.
After that last play, I felt better about my one year of refereeing Pop Warner football. The play on the field was in dispute--two officials standing alongside each other saw it differently. I know enough to say the white hat should have called all the officials together before they made a definitive call. The referee or the "R" wears a white hat. The one thing I know is the referee should have had that call.
It was really unbelievable to me the way this game was decided. That was bad by Pop Warner standards. Forget the NFL.
I think Roger Goodell and the owners look really bad for not respecting the quality of the NFL officiating crews. They're putting out a bad product with the replacement refs.

That MNF game ending was the worst call in the history of pro sports. Unbelievable.

Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
Saw a really good flick out in theaters now, "End of Watch".
It's a cop drama that focus on two partners, one white and one Hispanic. It is super intense but also has a lot of wholesome romance, love, and family stuff. If you take your wife or girlfriend, I'm pretty sure she's going to be feeling in the mood after seeing it.
It's also a guy flick for real. Lots of shoot'em ups. But whoever directed it made sure they touched on relationship issues. I loved the movie. The gang bangers are portrayed in pretty realistic terms, too, as far as I can tell.
Go see "End of Watch" if you like that sort of stuff. I meant to see "Trouble With the Curve" but ran late and caught EOW instead. I'm glad I did.

Thanks for the review. Thinking of going to see it sometime this weekend.
