I am going to have a very hard time cheering for either guy.

Chael has failed twice under the bright lights, and Forrest runs out the cage, and doesn't care anymore.

Chael should have to fight a tough Brazilian at 205 (Shogun, Belfort, Machida, Glover), before he gets a crack at bones.

That said, he is the greatest self-promoter in MMA history, bar none. Commendable.

I'm a big Chael fan, but it's hard to say that he'd deserve a title shot more than the winner of Gus/Shogun or Hendo/Machida. He'd never fight Hendo, but a number one contender bout against Shogun or Machida could headline a PPV and would do very well.

Shogun went from losing a title fight to beating Forrest to getting a number one contender bout, so Sonnen should have to do the same. If fans want to see him fight Bones, there's no reason why fans wouldn't want to see him fight Machida or Shogun.

I assume that the UFC wants Hendo and Gus to win so they can market a new opponent against Jones. I don't think that a PPV for Shogun-Jones II or Machida-Jones II would sell all that well, so then maybe it's justifiable to give Sonnen a title shot for monetary reasons.

Chael and Jones are both top 5 ppv draws for the company. Therefore there are very few main events that could draw like that. IMO Sonnen could barely beat a bleh Forrest and would still get the shot in the end.

Yeah, like the Bisping fight he was gifted so they could do Chael/Silva 2.

I think I tuned that out... I do remember the "he always is ready to fight, always brings it blah blah blah" from White. But I ignored the implication of it.

Damn you Reddzone.

Damn you.

Rory is kind of a creepy dude. When he went into isolation mode after getting injured, and saying he was going to kill Penn and all that. That's why the guy who does the voices is so funny when he imitated Rory. When he said he liked to sit in a dark room and visualize hurting his opponent or whatever. Priceless.

^ Just heard.

Hopefully he can start fighting like he used to, because that version of Clay was epic.

Swanson vs Guida?

Drop to 145
Fight a contender
"Look busy"
Shoulder strikes
Spend every ounce of energy not getting pretzeled from the bottom
"look busy"
Manage to win somehow

I want KZ, Edgar, or Aldo to put a hole in his face. I can't stand the way this dude fights.

Well, yeah, now he fights like a man afraid to lose.

But his fight with Henderson, and Diego Sanchez were both good fights.

The Maynard one was beyond bad though.

Is there any fighter in the ufc that goes from exciting to boring so often? His fights with Sanchez, Florian, Griffin, Bendo were all great. His fights with Pettis, Maynard, etc. all sucked.

Rashad randomly goes lay and pray I guess. Can't think of other people who would even be in the running.

Both Torres and GSP had a turning point in their careers where they fought more conservatively. Condit wasn't his exciting self in the fight against Diaz. MM kinda fights like Guida and some of his fights have definitely been more exciting than others. Anderson had some really boring fights against Leites and Maia.

Dan Henderson I guess you could count if you look at his entire career, from Decision Dan to Dangerous Dan. You could also count Frankie because rematches aren't as exciting.

But none of these guys are on/off like Guida.

Yea seems like most of the guys you listed are kind of a tale of two careers, e.g., Decision Dan to today's Hendo.

Guida varies every single fight it seems.

I've always been curious about a 145 run for him. I think he'd do quite well at that weight.

Hell, seems like Nik Lentz is poised for a mild run at 145. Isn't Guida a rich man's version of that in some ways?

He's Carlos Slim's version of Lentz.
