We really will be in position to free up cash this next offseason though. I just looked at it, and sure this has been hashed out. But 18.67M will be off the books, 29.67M if Ellis opts out, 31.66M if Sanders' team option is denied, and 38.34M if Gooden is amnestied. I don't think there is any chance Udoh has his team option denied. Obviously all of the above may not happen, but could potentially have close to 40M free into next offseason. At worst will have close to 20M.

But this even should give some flexibility if we were to trade Ellis and have to take on an extended contract of someone of talent.

Assuming we renounce Dunleavy, Udrih, Dalembert, and Przybilla, we are $16.1M under the cap if Ellis opts in, $27.1M under the cap if Ellis opts out. You have to probably take an extension for Jennings out of that number, so if Ellis opts in, we're really not going to have a huge chunk of cap space (unless we amnesty Gooden).

I highly doubt they decline any of the team options. It's more beneficial to eat up a roster spot at minimal money and see if the young player can make a jump.

Thanks for the correction, I just straight added the guys that will be UFA's and didn't figure in how that compares to the cap, what counts toward the cap, etc. So it's not quite as much as I thought.

Steve Kyler of HoopsWorld

I would say there are 10 to 12 solid two guards… the position drops off a cliff after say the 20th best player.

Kobe Bryant
Monta Ellis
Joe Johnson
James Harden
DeMar DeRozan
Arron Afflalo
Jason Terry
Jordan Crawford
O.J. Mayo
Klay Thompson
Paul George

where is Wade?

Good point. He plays three positions for them -PG/2G/SF

Ellis haters on here are not going to like or agree with this.

Honestly that's just a weird list altogether. No Wade or Gordon but yes Jordan Crawford and Derozan? Riiiight.

No Ginobli on that list either. He left out 3 of the top 5 SG's imo, pretty terrible.

Wade he obviously missed. Gordon is past his prime and is on par with Crawford. Derozan is better then both- not a problem making the back-end of the list.

Who's the 3rd- if your saying Ginobli and Wade- all I can think on Ginobli is he is looking at starters where Ginobli is now in more of a off-the bench roll.

Gordon is 23 years old and Derozan is a nothing.

I'm guessing he was thinking you meant Ben not Eric. And yes, Derozan is poopy.

Eric Gordon

Wade/Harden/Manu/Kobe/Gordon (Not really in order as I think it's extremely difficult to do so given the different roles each has on his specific team).

Right- Eric (was thinking he meant Ben) would be on the list, but it depends on how he comes back after major injury.

Eric Gordon as #3? I would easily take Kobe, Harden, and Paul George over Eric Gordon- as mentioned above- don't know how good Gordon will be after this kind of injury?

Wut.

You asked me who the other guy in my top 5 that was, that wasn't in the above list. That would be Eric Gordon.

If I had to rank them for next year it would be-

1a. Wade
1b. Harden
1c. Ginobli
1d. Kobe
5. Eric Gordon

He had a relatively minor meniscus injury which they were able to repair. He's been pretty prone to injuries in general in his career this far, Indiana included, but nothing about this knee injury concerns me.

WTF?! You would take Paul George over Eric Gordon?! Absolutely not.

And as far as Ben Gordon goes, he's nowhere near "past his prime".

Ben Gordon is 1000x better than Jordan Crawford. He's in an awful situation in Detroit.

Not anymore. He'll get to be a gunner in Charlotte this year.
