Re: Jazz Statement on Raja Bell
They are turning up the pressure on him. His value will be even lower with no training camp with any team because he will be behind most players in the league as far as preparation for the season and basketball shape is concerned.
They pretty much say to him that under no circumstances will he play for the Jazz this season (which was already obvious) and that the longer he waits the worse it will be for him as far as finding another place to play so he may as well take the buyout they did offer (Raja said they agreed on a buyout but the Jazz didn't officially offered it to him so he couldn't sign it. weird) and be done with it.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Re: Jazz Statement on Raja Bell
Interesting...*if* Raja is telling the truth and there never was an official offer.. then basially Raja is stuck to sit at home and get paid for it..he can't sign with anyone else..Jazz hold the cards..Raja has no choice but to show up and get told to go home..?
if there was an offer/agreement and Raja camp ignored it and backed out, then maybe the Jazz are standing firm with their offer..take the money and go somewhere else or sit and watch tv at home for the full amount.
With Raja still under contract can we still sign one of the camp invites and put Raja on the injured/disabled list? Is he taking up a roster spot still for the season? Just wondering how that works if no agreement or buyout happens....

Unless he is bought out Raja does take one of the 15 roster spots the Jazz have for this season.

I hope that Jazz show some maturity and resolve the issues soon. Doesn't make them look good to go to full out war with Raja over such a relatively small amount. Pay him whatever he is demanding and his career is over. In the grand scheme of things, it is likely that no other team will sign Raja.

I'd paying a player to play for another team would be the opposite of maturity. They gave him a chance last year, and he blew it. Raja want to get to paid to play, but not actually play. This is on Raja. HIs fault he can't play anymore AND his fault that he isn;t mature enough to recognize that. The Jazz wouldn't ask Raja to specifically not show up to camp if he wasn't such a team cancer at this point. This is all on Raja unfortunately.

It also makes no sense to tell a player don't play and pay him for it. Their has to be something on the table for Bell that he isn't accepting because the value of him not playing is greater than his contract and disagreement but more than zero.
This is all negotiation and the ball is now in Bell's hands to decide something.

Keep him as far away from the team as possible...... No need to have a malcontent at camp, or give Corbin (othewrise known as Jerry Junior) an excuse to take minutes away from Burks and Hayward by "showcasing" Bell.......

Yes, that means Corbin wont start him bc he is a veteran and he is scared of him.

I guess that paying him not to play at all this year, is a tiny bit better than not paying him to pay for someody else. However; Greg's propensity to fight over ridiculous issues (i.e., Karl Malone fiasco) hopefully will not rear it's ugly head with Bell.

Re: Jazz Statement on Raja Bell
At any tie the Jazz can waive him and pay his full salary, so there is nothing to be gained by releasing him early unless you want the roster spot or it saves you money.

You mean the buy who benched him for the entire (short) playoff series?

personally I love seeing a player not get rewarded for going to the media and essentially demanding a trade. You don't see owners demanding that the team get let out of their obligation. Its a contract, you sign it and if you don't fulfill your end of the bargain and remain loyal to the team then you should get rewarded for your bad attitude.

maybe the league should create a disgruntled player clause that allows a team to sit a player in a 16th spot for a whole season. The team pays the salary but gets to add a player.

I don't get why people don't think Corbin has a backbone. Yah, he played Raja too much at the begining of last season; but he moved him down the depth chart when other players stepped up. It would have been nice to see Burks start, but who other than a rookie is he going to play at that spot? CJ Miles? As bad as Raja was to start the season, CJ proved himself to be a worse player as the season wore on. And when Raja cause problems and Carrol stepped up? The problem was solved quickly.
