The No Respect thread

Post#1 » by keynote » Sat Sep 29, 2012 1:12 am

So, I went to the NBA Store in NYC today. I asked the sales clerk whether they had any Wizards shorts in stock. The NBA employee said (with a straight face) "no, we only carry them for the main teams."

well he/she is right.

Wizards are a bottom team like the Bobcats, and even Redskins. Only thing holding the Skins up is their history.

Skins pretty much suck in reality. same deal with Wizards, just the Wizards only have 1 historic run.

no way can a team like this beat the new Super Team concept.

and you cant make this team into a super team if all star players dont even want to come here.

I've always felt that the League views the Bullets/Wizards as sort of a House of Hufflepuff- really not of any deep relevance or impact, but just there because, well, the story doesn't work that good if all you have is Gryffindor and Slytherin.

And I've always suspected that Bullets/Wiz management went right along with it, with their long time ad campaigns which were basically the equivalent of, "Come see Harry Potter totally own our asses this weekend in Quidditch!"

I went to a private Christian high school in Takoma Park, MD - a stone's throw from the DC border - in the late '80/early '90s. We weren't allowed to wear caps during school, except for one day per year: Hat Day. For my first Hat Day as a freshman, I proudly rocked a Washington Bullets cap. Everyone laughed at me. "Are you a *Bullets* fan? Why?" "The Bullets are sorry." "You should root for the Lakers." etc.

To my knowledge, I was the only Bullets fan in my grade.

This. Being a Wizards fan is like rooting for extras in a movie about someone else.

My rock-bottom worst moment as a Wizards fan came when I took my daughter to a game against the Sonics. The Wiz were up double-digits late in the 3rd quarter. They're on a run; the Sonics call time; the Phone Booth faithful are screaming, yelling -- going nuts. I look over at my daughter. She's slumped in her seat crying.

Me: What's wrong?

Her: They're winning now, but they're going to lose.

Me: They're playing great. This time will be different.

Her: They always lose.

Me: Not this time.

So, of course, the Sonics come storming back late in the 4th, and Brent F. Barry hits that f-ing 3 and the Sonics f-ing win. I look over at my daughter and she says...

"I told you. They always lose."

I hate living in this area because it's full of bandwagoners. None of my friends are Wizards fans.

With all due respect, the Wizards are not even close to being one of the main teams.

They NBA store can only carry the main teams right now because the NBA store is currently in a temporary location while they search for a new permanent location.

They had to move from their previous permanent location (of over 13 years) because their rent was raised drastically and Stern did not want to pay it. I dont blame him.
