I'm going to pull my Amazing Kreskin routine and say that he gets a Nivek score of like, 3. Sigh.

Suggested him in another thread before seeing this. Good move, one I would have liked even if Wall was fully healthy.

Re: 'Zards Sign Jannero Pargo
I want to see a Pargo/Crawford backcourt. The level of shotjacking would rise to levels we've never seen before. Guaranteed tank.

I like it. I was hoping we signed him as the backup pg in the offseason. He's a guy who can get hot & carry the scoring load for small stretches and we will need that the first month of the season. Even after Wall gets back, I can see him earning a decent role. With him on the roster, it makes sense to start Crawford/ Beal and have Pargo replace Crawford on the bench as the instant scorer.

I don't know that Pargo can carry the scoring load, but he can at least bring the ball up and then spot up to stretch the floor. I also don't know about starting Crawford. Considering that nobody else on the second unit can explode if we need it, maybe starting a less-talented-but-purer-PG like Mack/Price would makes sense. We can always put the best 5 on the floor in the 4th, but the flow of the game might be better served with Crawford and Pargo coming off the bench.

Re: 'Zards Sign Jannero Pargo
Pargo's per-36 numbers last season weren't half bad:
Basically, he's Jordan Crawford only he can actually make shots from time to time.
Code: Select all
Player PTS REB AST STL BLK TO MIN eFG% TS% PER
pargo,jannero 15.4 4.0 5.2 1.1 0.1 2.7 13.4 .522 .540 13.7
crawford,jordan 19.0 3.4 3.9 1.2 0.1 2.9 27.4 .446 .488 14.5
Basically, he's Jordan Crawford only he can actually make shots from time to time.

-Pargo is 33 years old. For his career he has averaged 6.5 points and 2.0 assists, and 15.4 minutes per game.
-He has NEVER averaged more than 3.6 assists in 10 NBA seasons.
-In 390 NBA games he is a 39% shooter. Last season he shot better, but not by much.
Count me among those who think the Wizards hire veteran players before considering up-and-coming players who may be significantly better.
They should have waited and signed someone on the way up, but they leave that to other teams to discover. That is why they are the Wizards and that is why they are no good year after year.

While I think this oft-repeated complaint of yours is often applicable, I doesn't really concern me in this case. With this signing, we are looking specifically for an immediate replacement for John Wall - not for somebody we can groom over the long term. The guy needs to be effective in Game 1. Chances are, some young up-and-comer off the D-League or someplace isn't going to be ready.
Indeed, even if we did take a chance on an up and coming youngster, and after a year or two of grooming, he panned out to be a worthwhile NBA player; chances are, he'd depart via free agency to play for some other team who doesn't have a franchise player at his position.

I love this signing! He can shoot and a decent back up guard.

Agreed. Decent signing considering who's still available at this point, especially for a min deal. We have enough youth with Wall, Price, Mack, Crawford and Beal in the backcourt. A vet who can do a little of everything and solid way round out the roster IMO.

Straight clear evaluation.

Doesn't bother me. And as a Wizards fan I don't get to say that much.
His brother is better though. Anyone remember this play?

Re: 'Zards Sign Jannero Pargo
Good move. Pargo can protect the ball and shoot when needed.
Much more comfortable with him as the PG than Crawford. Crawford is nothing more than Juan Dixon 2.0.
Wished he was more, but he's not.

Re: 'Zards Sign Jannero Pargo
Color me shocked that there wasn't a young all-star caliber PG available on the waiver wire. I kinda like both of the fabulous Pargo brothers (obscure reference that probably nobody will get), so I like this signing as a move to get them over the hump for the first month of the season.
