Eddy Curry in Camp

Post#1 » by Nolan » Mon Oct 1, 2012 9:34 pm

http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/2012/10/01/curry-the-biggest-surprise-at-spurs-media-day/

The appearance of veteran big man Eddy Curry was one of unexpected moments on the day the Spurs officially gathered to prepare for the 2012-13 season. He is one of 20 players listed on the Spurs training camp roster.

Curry is listed as a 7-foot, 295-pound center. He is a 10-year veteran who has played in only 24 games in the last three NBA seasons combined. He appeared in 14 games last season with the Miami Heat.

Otherwise, there was a very familiar look to the team

Well he's big I guess and we have needed a center with legit size for like a decade but I really doubt he makes the team.

Can you maintain your reputation as one of the best run organizations in the league and invite Eddy Curry to training camp? I say no.

I love how the Spurs didn't even bother to announce Curry's presence to the media. As if they were ashamed. And they should be.

Still allergic to defensive length for Duncan

Doubt Curry works out, to much of any extent at least. Hope I'm wrong and he provides some punch off the bench, though.

Always low risk inviting someone to camp. If he shows the right stuff then we have nothing to lose by giving him a shot

Well he arrived in better shape than expected according to wiretap.

I hope he has finally gotten his head right. Only played 24 games in three seasons, maybe he has some desire to actually work for a spot in the league.

If he does pan out he gives us some size down low and 6 fouls.

We'll just have to wait to see how camp goes.

I don't think he makes the roster to be honest.

Miami had zero depth up front and he barely cracked the rotation there.

Even if he does make the roster he'll have a lot of DNP CD

Can't see him beating out any of the bigs on the roster for their spot in the rotation.

Amazed that Curry didn't try to sign with a team with a roster that was easier to make.

He never really showed an abundance of smart basketball decisions.

Maybe he thinks of he's going to ride the bench might tag along with a team with a half decent shot at the title.

Or maybe he knows that SA and especially Pop can transform the way some other teams look at him. If Pop takes a flyer on him, teams wouldn't be so scary to do it as well. If you can play for Pop, you can play for anyone in the league.
Shaq on Duncan:SA won because of TD, a guy I could never break.I could talk trash to Ewing, get in D-Rob's face, get a rise out of Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored and say:“Hey,Shaq, watch this shot right off the glass.”

Pop said it's between Curry or Brown.

Curry played another great game againts Miami. He really is arguably our best low post scorer. Better than Duncan right now, who has turned into a face up shooter. Eddy backs and moves people down low. I mean, offensively, from a low post guy, Eddy looks perfect so far. He's got the footwork, touch, spins, hooks, sealing his man in the paint, offensive rebounds, everything. Now, if only he plays defense.

It's simply easy for him to score in the low-post. He knows how to create contact, he punishes guys that play soft against him and he can finish around the rim easily with dunks or layups.

He can't defend to save his life and he isn't a good defensive rebounder for his size, but he is the only guy in the bunch (powell, brown, whitespoon) that can help SA against elite teams.

He obviously has flaws, but if there were no flaws, SA wouldn't be getting him for the min.

I prefer Curry over Brown and Powell quite easily.

Looks like the Mav's are going to be holding onto Curry (they waived Delonte West today).
