Nationals, Reds first to clinch playoff spots

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Fri Sep 21, 2012 2:30 pm

The Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals became the first Major League Baseball teams to clinch playoff berths on Thursday, while the wild card races at the top of both the National and American Leagues continued to heat up. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nationals- ... --mlb.html

What a year it has been for these two teams.

Braves Clinch on a walk off HR and I believe SF clinched the west a few days ago so 4 of the 5 spots are decided with STL closing in on the 2nd WC spot. Interesting that nobody has clinched a spot in the AL as of yet;

Rangers' magic number is 3 for a playoff spot and 5 for the west
Yankees 5 for a playoffs spot and 7 in the East.
O's magic number is 6
A's magic number is 7
And you can't talk about tight AL races without mentioning how tight the AL Central is with both teams being tied with 8 games left in the season.

The AL race continues to simmer 1 game leads in the East and Central while the A's are 3 games behind the Rangers for 1st in the West but the Angels are 2 games behind Oakland for the 2nd WC spot. All that with only 5 games left in the regular season;
Rangers win and their in but their magic # in the West is 3
Yankees # is 2 for WC and 5 in the East
O's # is 3 for a WC spot
A's are @ 4

While in the NL Stl is closing in on a WC spot with their magic # being 3.

A's clinched so the AL playoff teams are set, but who wins the AL West and East is still open.

AL West turned out to be the best division in the AL this season IMO, im biased as an A's fan, but with the Rangers, A's and Angels all being 90 win teams I think its a good argument.

Super excited the A's made the playoffs tho it may all end in 1 WC game. Lowest payroll in baseball, 100 games started by rookie pitchers, it has been a fun season. Especially nice since people were saying we were the worst team in the league.

Anyway, who do u predict to make the WS? I want to say the A's haha but I'll go with Rangers vs Reds.

Yankees (last hurrah for a while) vs Giants
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability
