#Magic SG @arronafflalo sat out of Thursday's practice with a mild hamstring strain. Availability for Sunday's 1st preseason game in doubt.

Jacque Vaughn made it clear: Gustavo Ayon will start In Sunday's exhibition in his home country of Mexico.

Not sure if it's because we're playing in Mexico or if it's because Ayon has won that spot.

I dont think it'll be close. Ayon will be our starting center

True that. Quinn is nowhere near starting in this league.

Most were thinking of Vucevic starting.

We're just talking pure cap space here:

Dwight was an expiring
JRich was making ~$6 mil for 3 more years
Duhon was not guaranteed after this year

So we basically got rid of $6 mil a year off the books before the incoming players. Harrington alone makes more than what was traded as far as future cap hits go (makes ~$7 mil over the next 3 years), and Afflalo is making ~$7.5 mil per over the next 4 years.

Now, I've been leading the rant on the fact that all the stars are locked up anyways and cap space does not matter now, so this is a moot point anyways, but the trade did not help our cap space as many proclaim. Add Jameer's rumored $8 mil a year deal and its very easy to conclude that Hennigan's plan is to tank for the next three years on purpose.

Right because Harrington is going to be here the duration of his contract, Jameer has two guaranteed years on his contract, so what's the big deal? you guys are aware that there is a league mandated salary cap floor right?

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

How do you know? I don't think there's enough information to deduce who will start or to rule anyone out. I can infer that it'll be Vucevic, but I think he's automatically at a disadvantage because of his "softness" and struggles on defense last season. He played a good chunk of games last year for me to know that he can be bullied on the block. O'Quinn at the very least can be a bully, hustle for rebounds, defend one on one, scrap for easy buckets. I haven't seen enough of Ayon to make an educated opinion.

Personally, I'm rooting for Vucevic. He has the offensive skill set, but from what I saw last year, he can be pretty bad defensively. I was hoping he'd bulk up a bit over the off-season, but he looks the same. His ceiling is a higher than the other 2 guys, so hopefully he's in the SL on opening night due to improvements since last season. But if not, that's an opening for O'Quinn or Ayon.

Vucevic was not bad defensively in his limited minutes. He actually rated better defensively then offensively. His pick and Roll defense needs work for sure mainly because he is slow (ala Brook Lopez-ish), but he defensive rebounded well and was okay blocking shots, also had a defensive rating around 97 i think (which is VERY good). I would compare his defense to a player like Lopez (better rebounding). Okay defensive anchor, unless you get him up high in space (P&R).

I have. He is bad right now guarding on the pick and roll with his lack of speed, but he is not what your making him out to be in the other phases on defense.

I think we'll be pleasantly surprised with Ayon, while this isn't technically a contract year, it's a huge opportunity for a guy who is looking to find a place in the league or dart for Europe.

I'm worried about him wanting to go back overseas. Could mean his heart is not into the NBA game, or I could just be completely wrong haha.

Yup. As long as he brings it every night on the glass & defense he's fine in my book.

Is anyone from the Dwight trade healthy enough to play basketball?

So you agree that the cap situation as it stands is not better and now you are saying that other deals can be made to correct it if necessary?

And yes, I'm fully aware of the floor cap. We were the 2nd highest spending club last year at $89,139,596. We definitely wouldn't have had any problems reaching the floor cap regardless of the trade.
