even though they're staggering into the playoffs, i'll be rooting for da rangers to win it all, if not at least the WC game vs. the orioles (fml)

33% of the teams in the majors made the playoffs this year.
40% of the teams whose payrolls were above $100m at the beginning of the year made the playoffs.
Without the second Wild Card, only three of the $100m teams would have made the playoffs, with a one-game playoff between the Rangers and Orioles determining the fate of a fourth.

A rare moment of parity, this.

Does the winner of th WC game face the Yankees?

The reason I don't like divisions in baseball is becuse it's set like:
1) nyy 95
2) oak 94
3) det 88
W1) tex 93
W2) bal 93

Both WC teams have a better record than the #3 and they are the ones that have to play sudden death. On top of that 2 more teams have a better record than det, and don't get a chance to play sudden death.

1) nyy 95
2) oak 94
3) tex 93
4) bal 93
5) tb 90
6) laa 89
7) det 88

Even though det won their division, they should atleast play the sudden death game vs bal/tex (worse head to head record) for having the worst record of qualifying teams.

As long as it's not the Yanks or Orioles, i'm pretty much good with just about any scenario, but this one would probably be my ideal scenario.

I think the Giants are more likely than the Tigers, but Verlander, Scherzer and one or two of Fister/Sanchez/Porcello will be tough.

I'll pick Rangers over Baltimore and Braves over Cardinals tomorrow, winners play Sunday.

Any idea why the Os are going with Saunders, arguably their worst pitcher tomorrow?

Who knows! Perhaps the O's will shock us again! I don't think it's likely, but anything is possible in a do or die game

As long as the Yankees or Nats don't win anything then I'll be happy.

Well Gonzalez and Tillman are out 'cause of rest. Arrieta, Matusz, and Britton aren't in any position to start right now as they've all been shortened up into relievers. That leaves Hunter or Saunders and I'm no Saunders fan, but he's better than Hunter. Alternative is Chen on short rest. I likely would've opted for that route myself, but Saunders has pitched very well for the O's so far so I'm hardly surprised.

Career numbers suggest that Saunders will get rocked tonight.

As bad as the Jays season was, it would be way more painful to throw away (literally) this one game playoff at home.

No one has any comment on Braves fan delaying this game by 20 minutes because they won't stop throwing stuff on the field?

That was a terrible call though and the infield fly rule should not be called when it lands that far in the outfield.

It was a terrible call and the outfield umpire should not be making a call named the 'infield fly'.
