I don't understand why the tigers have homefield advantage over the A's even though oak won way more games.

And why does Balt have homefield over the Yankees when nyk won the division?

Neither actually have home field advantage though LOL
They play 2 in Det and BAL to start off the series then play the remaing 3 at NY and OAK...sooo yea NY and OAK actually have home field advantage..

Oh okay but shouldn't the team with the better record start at home!

For example if any team loses the first 2 then all they need is 1/3 wins.

I mean I watch more nba and this would be a big disadvantage to the team with the better record

Home field isn't that important within a series in a practical sense, however, the scheduling for these series just doesn't make sense.....except for logistical reasons.

The second Wild Card team was added very last minute, so for logistics sakes they kept the Wild Card game winner at home to reduce the need for another travel day. Playing the 2-3 means there is only one travel day(between games 2 and 3)instead of the two you'd get in the 2-2-1. This is the only year where this will be the case, from next year on it will be returned to normal as they'll have more time to plan and schedule it out.

Being that I'm a Nats fan and we have the best record in MLB, I was kinda mad at this. But now that we've stolen Game 1 in St. Louis, I'm actually not that against it. If you can even split the first two games on the road, you've given yourself a great chance to win having to win just two of three at home.
