Leandro Barbosa...beef up the bench...

Post#1 » by laduane1 » Mon Oct 8, 2012 6:37 am

Love to see one real player added to the bench. Got 20 in camp, at lease 5 of those are not worth taking to the next game. You can never have enough good players and someone will sign Barbosa and Lakers will wonder why it was not them.

lol off of a preseason game that means nothing, the lets add this player bandwagon has begun. We're fine I liked what i saw from the regulars when they were on the court. And I kinda drooled all over myself when I imagined the reality that we can swap Dwight in for Sacre :o . I say the 1st 20 games of the season will be how long it will take develop chemistry, roles and rotations. Injuries are the only concern I have at this time. Still wish CDR could make the team think that guy could help, but it makes more sense to keep Sacre being he's a 7footer who can learn from Gasol and Dwight

So Barbosa is actually good? If he is so good why hasnt he been signed to a team yet? This isnt 2007 against the Smush Lakers bro...Barbosa really aint that good at all.

its pretty obvious by now either Mitch isn't interested or he's holding out for more then we can offer. I know you guys think Mitch can do whatever he wants at any time but there's "some" limits to his magical wand powers.

Comparing the 3 PGs that would be competing for back-up PG -if we signed Leandro Barbosa-:

Stats from Last Season:

Blake [32 years old] 23.3 mpg, 37% FG, 33% 3P, 77% FT, 5.2 PPG, 3.3 APG

Duhon [30 years old] 19.5 MPG, 41% FG, 42% 3P, 81% FT, 3.8 PPG, 2.4 APG

Barbosa [29 years old] 20.9 MPG, 42% FG, 38% 3P, 81% FT, 10.7 PPG, 1.4 APG

Considering that we need SCORING PUNCH off the bench, and considering that outside shooting is another very important aspect of need from our bench, Barbosa offers us a LARGE upgrade over what we currently have. He's also the youngest and freshest of the 3 players. No brainer to me.

I still wish we offered T Will
Terrance Williams is a point and would of been a nice pick up... Who are others you guys wanted?

pg: T Will
SG: Meeks or CDR
SF: Ebanks

would of been a fun backup line up

If barbosa accepts the vets. min. I don't see why he wouldn't have a place here.

he played good in the Olympics.. he is more of a 2 guard then a point.. I don't see how he is better than

CDR or Meeks at the point

Ball handling, pure and simple. He's the better ball handler of the three, as PROVEN CONCLUSIVELY in last night's debacle against the Warriors. Meeks is an off ball player, just like CDR. Barbosa is very effective handling the ball, either penetrating and pushing the pace to the basket, or shooting from the perimeter off the dribble. He is just the ingredient our bench needs.

Considering how deep the starting lineup is, I think it would be better to fill the bench up with players who can play off of the ball.

And that wont hurt us at all and I doubt Coach Pop wants a wreckless chucker that cant play off ball on his bench either.

Some times I wonder if guys understand the pace and tempo we'll play at ? Barbosa doesn't fit the mode at all, he's nothing more than an OC, no handle having guard who throws up bricks. Don't need at all....stop asking for him.

No he wont but you do understand that Barbosa is a worse fit for the bench than more passive guards like Blake and Duhon right? Barbosa for the last time isnt a PG. He is a high volume shooter that avg 1.5 asst...That means he will be in the game doing everything but running the offense. The team doesnt need that. Blake finally playing real bench minutes wont be an issue for LA.

problem is, the bench is TOO passive. i'm of the opinion, there's no leader of the bench mob so when things go pear-shaped, there's noone to knock heads and rally the troops.

in 2007-2010, farmar, sasha, shannon all had real mojo. and it starts on the perimeter, because moving the ball around and around and around until we finally post-up isn't the answer.

we don't need someone else to "tow the line", we need someone who can take control and to give the bench mob leadership, direction and most importantly an identity

Of course we want more assertive scorers on the bench but the problem is that Barbosa is too aggressive AND he would have the ball the majority of the time which would mostly alienate the other players. I wish guys get it out of their heads that he is actually a good player. Him signing on with LA wont bring him back to that one good year when he torched us in 2006-07. There is a reason why no one wants this dude. He just isnt very good. He got traded off a lottery team for a 2nd round pick with no players on the comeback. That lets you know they REALLY wanted to get rid of him. Did you see him at all during this year's playoffs? He was horrible to say the least. I'd rather have Blake at the point and Meeks or DJO at the 2. Its that simple.
