Happ, and use CV for long relief. But if you mean that we can only have one and the other walks I'd probably go with CV.

I agree with this. Way better wording of it too. We can't afford to trade 2-3 fWAR away for 1 fWAR. Not at this stage.

I think the Jays should make a trade with KC for Hosmer centered around Arencibia. Kills two birds with one stone imo. Sign Marcum+McCarthy and call it an off season.

I don't mind if the Jays trade Escobar, but it has to be for value. A salary dump just to get rid of him would be a huge waste of an asset. A trade for a similarly risky/effective player that helps in a different position would be fine with me depending on the player. Ideally, the Jays should find a short-term 2B and play Escobar at short for one more season in the hopes that he increases his value. If not, the team has options on his contract post-2013. In any event, I'd expect Hechavarria to start at SS in 2014 at the latest, if not at some point in 2013.

They also already have Salvador Perez, who is better than Arencibia and younger.

Part of the plan should be to keep Escobar, but i think the writing is on the wall and he will be moved in what will be a disappointing deal ..

Throw McCarthy a two year deal. See if he can return to form.

The Jays need pitching in order to make any headway in the AL East. I also believe that their offense is potent, but need another big bat would be beneficial should Jose go down again.

Throw Dan Haren a big offer of 1 year + mutual option.
Offer Yunel Escobar + Chad Jenkins/David Cooper for Brett Anderson
Trade Yunel Escobar for Trevor Cahill
Sign Shaun Marcum
Sign David Ortiz

Or if you want to go big and controversial:
Trade Jose Bautista/Yunel Escobar/Henderson Alvarez for Justin Upton/Trevor Cahill/Trevor Bauer or Tyler Skaggs

1. Claim Cory Wade off waivers.
2. ???
3. Playoffs!

But seriously, with all the injuries and poor performances the priority must be starting pitching. Morrow is fine, and I may be able to stomach Happ in the #5 spot if the top four are strong. That leaves three spots; two if Romero gets straightened out; one if Alvarez discovers an out pitch over the winter.

Gose, Sierra, Hech, and d'Arnaud can't all occupy starting spots if they hope to compete (duh!). Maybe in two years under the best-case scenario, but not now.

It should be easy to upgrade on Vizquel from last year. If that's Hech, that's fine by me. I think he's ready to contribute at the major league level.

I want Rajai Davis off this team. His constant brain cramps shouldn't be tolerated. If Gose takes the 4th outfielder/defensive replacement role, I'd be fine with that, but I'd prefer he get more time in Buffalo.

Arencibia can stay as catcher, but he's one of the more valuable trading chips and I think d'Arnaud is the better player, anyways.

I also want Farrell gone, preferably to Boston if they're silly enough to trade value in return. I also think it's time to move away from Murphy. This team needs to improve its OBP and cut down on its K's; that's been true for a long time, and it's not just the players that's the problem.

The bullpen should be good, especially if Santos comes back strong. I'd choose Lyon over Frasor, and if Oliver retires another lefty wouldn't go amiss; that could be Cecil. Loup looks like a keeper.

They need to do something with Cooper. He's a major league hitter - probably an average one - but one nonetheless. Either try to ditch Lind and use Cooper in a platoon role, or trade Cooper for something, even if that's a C-level prospect.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Ok, now that we got Corey Wade in our pen time to fix the other problems.
Please get decent starter(s) now AA.

Realistic names I'd like to see targeted in specific scenarios:
Big Bats for LF: Josh Willingham, BJ/Justin Upton, Nick Swisher, Torii Hunter,
In a table setting role Melky Cabrera, Angel Pagan, Gerardo Parra
Big bat for DH*: Ortiz, Hafner if his option is declined, *however I hate the idea of having a guy that can only DH and provide no value anywhere else on the field.
Second Basemen that keep Hech in the minors for a bit longer: Scutaro, Jeff Keppinger, both Izturis', Ryan "the riot" Theriot *don't like the idea of trading for a second baseman while Escobars value is low and Hech is not yet proven. But I would consider a stop gap that keeps Hech in the minors a luxury. I think with an added bat somewhere or significant improvement to the rotation they can afford to carry his bat.
Rotation: Haren, Peavy, Ejax, Sanchez, Porcello, Josh Beckett, Justin Masterson, Alexei Ogando, Jonathan Niese, Josh Johnson
Wildcards/ Flyers: McCarthy, Lirano, Bartolo Colon, Carlos Lee, Grady Sizemore, Shane Victorino, Jonny Gomes
Ideally 2 of the guys from the rotation but I think only one is realistic and any of the wildcards at the right price could represent low risk/ high reward.

Going by needs:

1. SP - #2 and/or #4 in the rotation, and there's a decent pool of FA's to get this done
2. LF - this would obviously filled by trade (screw Swisher & Hamilton). I would offer a decent # of excellent prospects (incl. Sierra) for Alex Gordon in a dream world. Or perhaps if the Mets are down on Duda as they appeared to be later in the season, I would inquire.

Less so:

3. 2B - although I don't exactly know what their salaries are at the moment, kick the tires on Weeks or Uggla for Escobar type of deal, otherwise keep as is with Aviles filling our Johnny Mac role.

I have no problem with Hech starting at SS for 2013, and the rest of the roster is built to compete provided #1 and #2 are dealt with.

Sign this guy. Shohei Otani. People compare him to Yu Darvish. He wouldnt be on the Jays right away, but he would be very nice to have.

Alright, this is what I really want to see happen while being realistic.

Sign:
Sanchez
Napoli
Peavy/Haren
Otani

Trade for:
Prado or Uggla

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
