Not to be a Polyanna, but this could be a blessing in disguise. The offense with Benson had a split personality. I think teams were willing to give us Benson because he wasn't a big play threat the way everybody else is. Those dump offs to Benson mean a lot more if they're going to a guy who can rip off big chunks of yardage on them like Green potentially could. Benson's greatest utility to us is to grind out the clock in close games. As much as announcers have been talking about the extra dimension he gives us, I think all the touches he gets, because they never result in big plays, close off more than they open.

Yeah, I really like Benson but I hope we start passing the crap out of the ball now like we did last year.

I have faith in Starks to both produce and stay healthy.

Alex Green time.

Looks like we will be seeing Starks again. Maybe we will be blessed with Finley missing 8+ weeks.

What happend last time Finely went down and Starks was our main RB. Super Bowl!

**** me.

Outside of one run, Alex Green has looked far from mediocre, even. This could get ugly.

Hope the passing game catches stride. It could.

That Alex Green run was a big time a-ha moment for me. Benson is excellent picking his way through traffic for short gains, but short gains are exactly what defenses are trying to allow us. They're trying to string us out on long sustained drives. IMO the way to combat that is not to get a guy who's good at grinding those out -- that plays right into their hands. It's like Skiles calling plays to get long two pointers. What we need is guys who can make teams pay big on the small stuff. I think Green fits into that category. I know Cobb does.

If that means we sacrifice some ball control, so be it.

Really? Have we learned nothing from the last several games? The lack of a semblance of a running game has a negative impact on our entire offense. It allows the safeties and linebackers to play back and places tremendous pressure on Rodgers and the Core to be absolutely perfect, and they haven't been. It also impacts our pass protection because the rushers can just peel back and rush the QB every single play. It just doesn't keep the defense honest.

I don't know if Benson was a major difference-maker, but I do know that our pass protection and offensive ability improved dramatically when Benson was making some strides in the running game. Further, I know that when we abandoned the running game, our offensive performed far more poorly and our pass protection was terrible.

So, passing the crap out of the ball just isn't working right now.

Maybe this guy will come on, but up to now I've seen nothing from the guy. No burst, no wiggle, no power. I actually thought Samkon Gado was better and that isn't saying anything. And I think the front office felt the same way, hence the reason TT went out of his comfort zone and brought in a FA.

Agree with HumanRefutation's point above on the running game. A-Rod has to have that play-action threat. We've seen when he doesn't have it and he struggles.
