Steve Blake and Chris Duhon available via trade

Post#1 » by Matt6288 » Fri Oct 12, 2012 3:10 pm

I just saw this on www.Hoopsrumors.com

The Lakers have "made it clear to the rest of the league" that Steve Blake or Chris Duhon are on the trading block and could be had in a deal, according to ESPN.com's Marc Stein. No trades involving either player are imminent, but Stein wonders if the duo could draw more interest down the road when injuries begin to pile up around the league and outlooks aren't so "rosy."

Blake, 32, has suffered a dip in production since joining the Lakers two seasons ago, and still has two years remaining on his contract at $4MM annually. As such, Duhon could be the more attractive trade target for any interested teams. The 30-year-old hasn't been at the top of his game in recent years either and is also under contract for two more years, but his $3.75MM salary in 2013/14 is only guaranteed for $1.5MM.

Within Stein's piece, the ESPN.com scribe adds that if the Lakers are able to move Blake or Duhon, it's possible the team could re-add Derek Fisher to its roster, assuming the veteran point guard is still on the market. When I rounded up a few rumors on some unsigned free agents yesterday, I said the Lakers wouldn't be able to add Fisher until March, a year after they traded him. However, the club could actually re-sign Fisher now if it wanted to -- because he had a player option for 2012/13 that wasn't exercised, the 38-year-old was eligible to rejoin the Lakers beginning on July 1st of this year.

I can't see anyone taking on those two completely useless players. We'll just have to ride it out and have the worst backup PG's in the league for a couple more seasons.

This could be a motivational tool for them. I wouldnt looked to deep into it, doubt anyone wants those guys at their salaries. Plus we'd have to take players back and that would defeat the purpose of trading them.

Blake isn't that bad of a player, but the high expectations of the fan base makes it hard for him to prove that.

This. What people fail to understand is that Blake never really underachieved its that he's been forced to share starting duties with Derek Fisher. Blake isnt a starting caliber player especially for a contender. I feel he will thrive if he is getting the proper 15-17 minutes that he should get. Its when he's playing 25 plus minutes is where we start to realize he needs to be out the game against 1st units.

The two could be valuable contracts by the trade deadline, as some teams may be willing to take them on for a year and a half for the future cap relief. Heard this on Max and Marcellus and I agree with it. Not too likely, but possible.

I don't understand the LA front office. Why not resign Sessions after he opts out? We're not getting anything for these two.

Don't we hear a rumor like this just about every season about some player that seemingly has no value?
MWP, Walton, Farmar, Sasha... I think I've heard something similar for each of them and it never amounts to anything... They're always still on the roster until the off-season.

Only way we move Blake or Duhon, is if someone else is included like an Ebanks or Clark or something like that...

And even then, it'd be a long shot.

What is he good at?

Our bench badly needs someone that can create and hit open shots. That's all he has to do (he's a PG, right?) and he's incapable of either. I don't think his defense is all that bad, but my goodness is he horrible at running an offense. I just don't see what kind of value he brings to the team.

I read this as: we're trying to make room for CDR/Sacre/one of the young guards.

Duhon really dogged it last game. Seemed like he was embarrassed to play with the scrubs.

Maybe because he wanted to resign elsewhere or maybe he got a bigger offer than they were willing to pay? Maybe?
