Lakers Rumors: Robert Sacre Might Make Lakers Roster
By Daniel Buerge | October 12, 2012

The Lakers are working on finalizing their roster for the upcoming season. Currently there are a group of players on the end of the team’s bench, many of whom won’t actually make the team this season. One player who has had a positive impact on the team and has taken advantage of the opportunity given to him is rookie center Robert Sacre.

According to Mark Medina of the L.A. Times, Sacre is leaving quite the impression on some of his teammates, mainly Kobe Bryant.

“I’m very impressed,” Kobe Bryant said Friday of Sacre. “I really didn’t know too much about him coming out of Gonzaga. I know Gonzaga puts out some solid big men but I really didn’t know too much about him.”

Will the 7-footer make the Lakers?

“Oh yeah, I think so. Absolutely,” Bryant said.

Sacre has had the chance to start the first two pre-season games in Dwight Howard’s absence, and has taken advantage of the opportunity. He’s averaging 7.0 points and 2.5 rebounds through these first two games.

I think he should.. If Gasol or Dwight get hurt we would be paper thin in the front court

Sacre:
Can set good screens
Isn't a stiff
Great size
Good free throw shooter
Good hands
Is cheap

There aren't many cheap big man in free agency might as well keep him on IR and have him play on the defenders and spot duty. He seems to hold his own against Dwight in practice. Practicing with Dwight and Gasol should make him a very respectable player if he works hard..

I was unable to watch the first two pre-season games so I have no opinion of this guy. I am interested to read the responses of the laker fans on there opinion of him.

Me neither, but just judging from the practice vid of him going against Dwight, I'd say he's worth a spot. Dwight dominated him, but Dwight would dominate just about anyone 1:1... I liked Sacre's physicality and mobility on Dwight though.
Especially since he's a rook...

I really wish we could get rid of one the back up PGs. It seems like right now CDR and Sacre have the last two spots on the roster. I'd really like to see what DJO has got, but I haven't seen anything from him in particular that stood out.

'cause DJO isn't getting some burn.

agree that it's going to be Sacre and CDR. and it's Duhon's fault we'll be missing out on DJO.

He looked pretty good to be in the 2 preseason game. Can finish around the rim pretty well and is a pretty good ft shooter. So why not, ill be happy to have him on board

He should make it. Based on his play and his interviews, he knows his role with the team. He's out there to defend/rebound and make the second effort plays.

He'll make it, because it's obvious Goudelock is out of the loop. Plus we need another big, Rob is actually decent. Still a little raw on offense but it's not like that's what he's making it for anyway.

He plays big on the offensive end with his hook shot. Can get better practicing alongside Dwight and Gasol. Also needs to improve his rebounding IMO. But I like him on the final roster.

Lakers cut him. He will be on a team and playing well against the lakes. Keep him. D12 needs time to get 100% and a good cheap backup is very hard to find.

He's there as a big body security. cheap short contract with a lakers option next season most likely.

He's got a decent low post game as well, and from what I've seen so far he plays solid defense. He should definitely make the team.

Draft reports seem spot on. They stated that he was a strong defender and that his weaknesses were being aggressive offensively. I've seen good defense from him so far, and offensively there have definitely been situations where he should have been more aggressive (e.g. Nash got him the ball deep several times where he should have dunked but didn't).

His weakness is rebounding but I think that's something that can improve with conditioning/strength training as well as being more aggressive. Of course he can learn a thing or two from the best rebounder in the league as well.

I'm not really that high on him from the pre-season games. He's a very weak finisher and can't dunk in traffic, which is a complaint I have with Jordan Hill as well. His rebounding is below average and he lets people grab rebounds over his back and he isn't quick laterally.

I'd rather see DJO make the team since he seems like a good open court finisher and someone that can put the ball on the floor and create but Potato head doesn't seem interested in giving him any burn even if that's exactly the kind of player we've been missing on the 2nd unit.

Guess Utah's big men will be a nice test for Sacre to see if he can hold his own out there.

From what I saw of him in pre-season games seems like a good choice to keep on.

Looks pretty decent.

He isn't afraid to bang, and doesn't try to do to much. Has a couple of moves in the post and shoots a nice soft touch from 10-15 ft. He isn't very athletic, but uses his body well against bigs, because he has to.

Still haven't seen as much as I would like with him on defense, where he would have to run out on pick and pops, he isn't very athletic, so I would assume he wouldn't fair to well on D. He seems to box out at least on the boards.

I think he makes the team as an emergency big.

He can be the Lakers new DJ MBenga getting dunked on off the bench

From today's pre-season game vs. Utah:

So far, Sacre looking good. He's hustling, rebounding, and his aggression is being rewarded with FTs. He is actually holding his own for the most part against Kanter, though Kanter is clearly stronger, and has better footwork.

(Kanter is apparently intent on posting up, backing down, and doing a up and under on almost every play. It's a good move, but the dude needs a few more options. Also, he is probably going to end up with zero assists for the entire season, the way he is playing. back to Sacre...)

The facts are that he hustles, boards, and looks for garbage points. The Lakers may or may not be looking for him on a lot of plays, but he is getting involved regardless, and that bodes well for him. For all these reasons, he's a good complementary player, and I'm pretty sure they are going to keep him.

so if DJO doesn't make the team, is he gonna be an FA or will we still have his rights and be allowed to play him in dleague
