Small tidbit of news: PHX, ORL and DAL are 3 new teams that will use the fancy STATS, LLC camera-tracking system this season, source says.
Zach Lowe @ZachLowe_NBA
In total 13 teams will have the cameras. TOR, OKC, SAS, NY, BOS, HOU, MIL, WAS, GSW, MIN all had. ORL getting them = Hennigan's influence
Andrew Melnick @Andrew_Melnick
I asked Hennigan about newer technology when he was hired. He wouldn't go into specifics, but hinted at this.
What does this mean exactly? I mean the system can do what?
The system, called SportVU and run by STATS, LLC, tracks every movement during an NBA game. It can generate an almost infinite amount of data, on everything from how fast a player runs to that player’s shooting percentage from 19 feet away on the left wing after three dribbles to his shooting percentage with a defender less than two feet away.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basket ... index.htmlThis technology sounds amazing and seems to all but eliminate having actual man power to document the data. However you would still need people to compile all the data taken from this camera technology. We truly are going to use the "moneyball" approach going forward which is very exciting to me.
