Small tidbit of news: PHX, ORL and DAL are 3 new teams that will use the fancy STATS, LLC camera-tracking system this season, source says.

Zach Lowe ‏@ZachLowe_NBA
In total 13 teams will have the cameras. TOR, OKC, SAS, NY, BOS, HOU, MIL, WAS, GSW, MIN all had. ORL getting them = Hennigan's influence

Andrew Melnick ‏@Andrew_Melnick
I asked Hennigan about newer technology when he was hired. He wouldn't go into specifics, but hinted at this.

What does this mean exactly? I mean the system can do what?

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

In yrs past #Magic have only kept 14 players on roster. GM Rob Hennigan said team will keep 15 this yr because of injuries and young players

John Denton ‏@JohnDenton555
#Magic Jameer, E.Moore, Afflalo, Redick, Turk, Baby, Goose, Vucevic, A.Harrington, Ish, Moe, Nicholson, O'Quinn and Q sure to be on roster.

can't agree with that

The system, called SportVU and run by STATS, LLC, tracks every movement during an NBA game. It can generate an almost infinite amount of data, on everything from how fast a player runs to that player’s shooting percentage from 19 feet away on the left wing after three dribbles to his shooting percentage with a defender less than two feet away.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basket ... index.html

This technology sounds amazing and seems to all but eliminate having actual man power to document the data. However you would still need people to compile all the data taken from this camera technology. We truly are going to use the "moneyball" approach going forward which is very exciting to me.

That technology will be great, because you can now match the data to the eye test, there's also synergy sports which is amazing, I would guess the magic have employees whos jobs are to make notes out of the data for every team in the league(for instance one guy tracks 5 teams, another tracks 5 etc)

Vooch/Goose/O'Quinn
Davis/Nicholson/Harrington
Turk/Hark/Q
Aff/JJ
Meer/Ish/Moore

Jones is a more needed fit to give us some legit wing depth. It Aff or JJ go down then we're looking at Moore or Q to play the 2 and they'll be mismatched.

With Harrington here, Q is absolutely redundant. I'd rather cut Q than McRoberts. Or, if we have to let McRoberts go, let's at least move him for a 2nd rounder. Some team will definitely snap him up.

I hope Glen Davis puts up good numbers this year for us... I think he will... he has some help in the frontcourt

With Dwight gone, he will be our leading scorer.

I was on the fence about Q. But after tonight's game, I'll be pretty peeved if Q is still here and Dequan Jones is cut.

Very happy with Moore tonight and hope Jones can stick in that last spot so he can be our new Von wafer.

1 spot for grabs on #Magic roster between McRoberts (likely on), Eyenga, D.Jones, C.Johnson and J.Harper. Coaches like Jones, a UMia product

Seems like it's coming down to Jones & McRoberts. I'm disappointed to see Q still on the roster and taking up a roster spot. Hopefully, we can pull off a trade before season starts.

I know he's untradeable at the moment, but that's how I feel about Turk. He's overpaid, taking up space on the roster, will eventually prevent young talent from getting big minutes, and he has nothing to offer the rookies as a vet. If anything, he will teach our younger players how to slack off and eat pizza.

While I also would prefer to see Turk go in order to free up PT for the younger players - most notably Harkless once he is healthy - I have to believe that if he gets playing time this year, it's because he's earned it as the best option on the roster. I don't think JV is going to start him as a favor to Turk, unless it's to give him a chance to up his trade value.

I saw Jones potential as a decent back up game 1. I have no clue why mcroberts is likely to stay. There is a complete log jam at that spot and all he'll do is take time away from the rooks. Q and McRoberts are a waste of a roster spot imo. So is Harper and Johnson&Johnson
