I'm depressed.

I honestly was fearing a loss but at most I was thinking a 1-0 heart breaker...

Calling that embarrassing is redundant by now, but honestly the only saving grace is that the shame of such a loss wakes enough people up to revamp the program. Where I live there's a thriving soccer environment for youngsters. Why is this not translating into better results at higher levels is beyond me, but the powers that be better figure out a way to channel the talent in a better way. We're a third world country in men's soccer.

I had no idea there was even a game today I don't think I've ever seen 8 goals in a soccer video game
before let alone a real game. Performances like these makes me wonder if we'll ever see Canada
in the World Cup in our life time and do most Canadians even care?

ive seen canada in a world cup in my lifetime. but i was 1.

ive also seen 8 goals in a soccer video game. fifa 98 it was routine when using England. Michael Owen speeding by his defender along the bottom of the screen, then from the bottom of the box you put it in the top far corner. always worked. then chumbawamba would come on as we celebrated the world cup.

We were almost as bad as Indonesia when they lose on purpose.

There's tons of leagues in europe... Just because the players play in europe they're more talented? Simeon Jackson plays in the bpl and he's nothing to write home about.

You only see countries like San Marino, Moldova and the like losing by scores of 8-1 at this level.

Jason deVos (Former Captain) is going nuts on TSN Radio. Said that Canadas team was gutless and the worst loss in history and called them all out. But he attributed it to poor support for the National Teams. Said that Canada Soccer is underfunded, under trained, and has no guidance and apparently the Government Organizations doesent seem to give a fuzz about supporting it. Canadas program is terribly behind the rest of the world, and any success they manage to even get (like the Women's Team) is in spite of a terrible program, all the credit should go to the players/coach. The program needs to start devloping young players, coaches, and actually run a real grass roots program. All the mistakes that Canada did today was amateur level, and is simply not acceptable in the Pro or World level. It needs to be changed and fast, but doubt they will, because they are scared of change because they will lose some enrollment fee which is the source of their income. They need more funding but they wont get sponsors if they keep failing due to lack of support/funding, its a vicious cycle. I agree with everything he said.

James Cybulski is saying that we obsess so much over Hockey and pour all this effort into it, that our other programs are lacking (Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, etc)

My take is that if you are not a aspiring Hockey Player, Canada honestly... is a hell hole for careers. Their is a reason why Canadians em masse do down the United States when they are old enough. Their is just so much problems plaguing Canada right now. I can only say that from personal experience our Film Industry is terrible, our Sports Programs (besides Hockey, and other Countries who care less, can still beat us) are terrible, our Telecommunications are monopolized and way behind. Taxes are some of the largest in the World, Our "free" Healthcare is overrated. Our Subway System in Toronto is a freaking joke, if you compare with how grand others are in other world class cities. Canada is a farce, its like when people feared the USSR during the Cold War as some huge power, but outside of Nukes, they were a impoverished country. Canada simply has barely grown since World War 2, and any "success" they get is only because some other Country screwed up, not because they did anything significant. I was grown up to love Canada and think it was as great as the USA or Europe, but I think I could have a happier and more fulfilling life in a more comparable Country like Egypt or Thailand.

over reaction to a soccer game much?

and while hockey gets lots of funding, theres little guarentee that funding would go to other sports otherwise. its just a convenient excuse for the people who make money running other programs into the ground. canada basketball blamed all their problems on hockey, but it was really the guys in charge who were at fault. they switched it up, got people in that the players actually respected, and now its a different story. soccer is even worse, and has been for a long time. hopefully a new guard will emerge in this sport as well cause we need it.

except that he must be skilled to have an affect in that league. the honduran team we lost to today features 11 players not in their domestic league, 6 of which are in MLS, 1 is part of a greek team that bounces from the alpha and beta leagues, 1 is on a top polish team, 2 in the scottish premier league, and 1 plays for wigan - who i suppose i have to call a premier league team. so thats 15 honduran league, 6 mls, and really only 3 playing in leagues of any note.

canada, having no premier domestic league, has 7 MLS players (including former MVP de roasrio, all star will johnson, and dp de guzman who also used to play in la liga), simeon jackson plays premier league, edgar has played epl though hes in the championship right now, hutchinson plays for PSV one of the best teams in holland, occean, de jong, and mckenna play in bundesliga, weve got guys in the top level leagues of norway, sweden, switzerland, finland and lots of guys in the championship and league one. weve got a 17 year old midfielder Sam Piette whos in the bundesliga youth league. not to mention the jackasses not playing for us in the epl (jdg and hoillet), or even hargreaves at man city.

you might disagree that this somehow indicates talent, but youd be wrong. to play bundesliga, eredivisie, or epl takes a hell of a lot of talent. a lot more than the honduran league. individual talent is not the problem with team canada.

Nope I never even watched the game, had a feeling this was going to happen. Its just pent up frustration over years of enduring what I feel is a Country that wasent as all it was cracked up to be, and I would be glad to leave (like many others) next year as planned and not come back (I have a Citizenship for Japan, Thailand, USA, Canada. And it didnt take 4+ years, poor Matt Bonner). The only thing I might miss is my Family members and I might support the Raptors still, but otherwise good riddance, looking forward to the greener grass on the other side.

PS. Only James did, but Jason just wants a real program anyway it can happen, too bad Canada doesent give a fuzz about even starting from the bottom. Canada will just pretend the US National teams are their teams too, while its people would rather support their former homelands in Europe, Asia or S.America.

well youll be in for a treat when you go to this imaginary country where they love their leaders, taxes are at a level everyone agrees with, the healthcare system is flawless, and theres no favourite sport and they all win equally. but please have fun in egypt and thailand.

I would like to enjoy Thailand or Egypt, but then im reminded that its the same as Canada but with hot weather. I have a business in California, Australia and Thailand, im not leaving with blinders on, ive already been established and know that I have places I would rather be in, as an aspiring Businessman. No Country or System is perfect, but I knew Canada wasent the country to be in any longer when I realized I couldnt hold a Hockey Stick, their just wasent anything else it could offer that wasent better somewhere else.

what business would that be if you dont mind me asking? cause im not much of a grammar nazi (lord knows im a lazy typist), but after saying the only difference between canada and egypt is the weather im left with less sympathy towards using their instead of there, the many baffling syntax errors, really random capitalization, and the continued use of the word "wasent".

The fourth-placed team of CONCACAF will play Oceania Football Confederation's first-placed team in a home-and-away play-off. The winner of this play-off qualifies for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Finals.
from wikipedia

Theyll most likely play vs New Zealand
