Re: Around the NBA
I agree that Faried is more effective right now because his role is defined as garbage man, while Thomas Robinson is perhaps expected to be more of a scoring force.
Robinson can find a role in the league if he plays very hard, I just don't see him being a high impact guy like you'd want with the #5 pick in an amazing draft.

I've cracked the Kings' drafting code... in about 3-4 years they are going to draft a PF who's first name is Robin..

Faried is a classic energy guy.

He's the same size as David Lee (both 6'7.75" without shoes at the combine). Is Lee under-sized?

Read again...skill level and size.
Lee is a 20/10 player, so no he's not a bust. He also has never been reliant on being a power player like Robinson is. You can't be 6'9 and 240lbs and expect to only overpower people and not have much else. That's Robinson right now.

I thought you might say that, so I changed the question to what I was trying to get at... is Lee undersized?

On offense he's big enough to be effective inside and out, especially considering his passing and his ability to take advantage of angles.
On defense he's very much undersized and it shows.

Is he really undersized or is he just too slow laterally for his height? What's the average PF height? Seems like Lee's in the ball park.

Re: Around the NBA
Lee's not as big, long, strong, nor athletic as most PFs.
Dirk, Pau, Amare, Aldridge, Duncan, KG, Bosh, Monroe are all taller/longer.
B.Griffin, Boozer, Love, Z.Randolph, David West are all stronger.
Lee is a wily 6'9, 250lbs because he can't be an overpowering 6'9 250lbs, in either strength or athleticism. He can get by on offense with smarts, but on defense the truth comes out. Its hard to hide when your opponent is bigger and/or more athletic and/or stronger.
That's why Robinson needs to develop his game, because a 6'9, 240lb power guy just doesn't work, not on offense and most definitely not on defense.

Re: Around the NBA
His left hand and midrange jump shot is amongst the best in the league. If not for that, he'd be in big trouble.

T Rob is almost exactly the same athlete as Blake Griffin and much better athlete than David West. He's just as strong as the second group of guys you mentioned and faster than all of them except MAYBE Griffin. How exactly can he not work as a PF? He can EASILY be a garbage man and average a double double ala Kris Humphries. T Rob's problem so far is that he plays the game like he's more skilled than he is. This brings him away from the basket which takes away his biggest strength, the ability to hit the glass and create havoc inside with his strength and motor. He needs to harness those skills and improve his jumper before he starts trying to play face up from the perimeter. Until then he should focus primarily on rebounding and giving other teams fits with his motor. The Kings need to drop the SF experiment until he has his feet under him in the NBA.
He will have most trouble defending the PFs that are around 7 ft especially if they have some post game like Pau, Bosh, Dirk, Duncan and KG but everyone has trouble guarding these guys unless their jumper is just not falling. T Rob will be one of the best PFs at keeping up with guys who try to beat him off the dribble because he has great foot speed for a guy his size and understands angles well.
He does need to refine his skills to be more than a garbage man though as a Kris Humphries type player would be a disappointing pick in that draft class at 5

Re: Around the NBA
it's surprising, but he actually is. I think he's an inch or so shorter, but he had the same verticle, agility, speed etc in testing

That's kind of like saying that Jason Hill is a better athlete than Jerry Rice because he had a better 40 time and vertical leap on his pro day.
There is game time athleticism and there is empty gym athleticism.
(Sorry if you don't follow American football. But its an apt analogy

That block and that dunk were so very satisfying to watch, I just feel better about things in general now after watching it.

What's wow about this? Blake is a more explosive in game jumper but other than that they have similar measurements across the board as specimens. Similar in height, standing reach, similar weight, both guys strong and built like a rock, with very good athleticism.
I know that combine measurements don't tell the whole story, but I'm talking about more than their verticals. They both have a similar build with great verticals and great speed and quickness for their size.
